Prioritizing Self-Care

This podcast is not intended to diagnose, treat or give professional advice, I do strongly encourage anyone who may feel they are in a codependent situation or want to explore deeper to consult a mental health professional. I am simply sharing things I have been discovering about myself on my journey in order to help shed some light for others who may be feeling like I was.

Self-care is essential for breaking free from codependency and nurturing a healthy relationship with yourself. In this episode, we will explore the importance of engaging in activities that promote your well-being and decrease reliance on others for validation and happiness. Here are some self-care tips:

  1. Cultivate a Relationship with Nature. Nature has a way of putting our lives into perspective, reminding us of our place within a larger ecosystem, and fostering a sense of belonging and interconnectedness that is separate from human relationships.

2.Creative Expression Without Judgment.This could be anything from free writing (writing without direction or restraint) to abstract painting, dancing freely to music, or even crafting. The key here is to allow yourself to create without judgment, focusing on the process rather than the outcome. This practice can help in rediscovering personal desires, tastes, and expressions outside of the influence of others.

3.Set Boundaries with Technology. This might involve designated "tech-free" times during your day or specific apps designed to limit time spent on social media. The goal is to create spaces in your day where you are present with yourself and your immediate environment, reducing the noise and demands that can exacerbate feelings of codependency and distract from self-reflection.

4.Explore Your Personal History. Often, codependent patterns are rooted in our past experiences and family dynamics. Dedicating time to explore and understand your personal history can be a powerful form of self-care.

Adopting these not-so-common self-care practices can provide fresh perspectives and tools in the path to overcoming codependency. Each step taken towards nurturing a healthier relationship with oneself is a step towards freedom and fulfillment.
