Chris Huelsbeck remains one of the most important composers in the area of computer games music. He was influenced by Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, and other experimental electronic bands of the 1970s. His sounds for Turrican, Star Wars, and The Great Giana Sisters rank amongst his most famous compositions but he has in total written music for over 100 games in his career. Born in Kassel in Germany, he was brought up near Frankfurt. At 17, he won a competition for the 64er magazine for his composition Shades, leading to a job at Rainbow Arts in music production.

His story is about genius, talent, aspiration, and hard work. He currently lives in the States but remains an understated, humble individual who, through this interview, gives us an insight into how it is to compose music for computer games.

His Patreon page will allow you at a small cost to use his music as long as he is credited: https://www.patreon.com/chris_huelsbeck

And his Bandcamp can be found here; https://chrishuelsbeck.bandcamp.com/

If you like the interview with Chris Huelsbeck, and maybe electronic is your thing then look back over my catalog of interviews for the ones with Martyn Ware (Heaven 17), and Wolfgang Flür (Kraftwerk).
