Thank you for joining us on Episode 20 of RadioNuclear! In this episode, we discuss the news of the NRC’s decision to issue a design certification license for the APR1400. Because of this news, we take a few minutes to discuss the monumental effort and process of getting a reactor through design certification process. We cover the recent and unfortunate news regarding the future of nuclear from Southern Company. There may also be a possible lifeline for the VC Summer project? We also take a minute to discuss a video from friend of the show Dr. Georg Steinhauser on a recent fishing trip to the cooling ponds of Chernobyl.
Today’s special guest is Dr. Jose Reyes of NuScale, LLC! Dr. Reyes is the chief technology officer and co-founder of Nuscale, the company delivering the NuScale passively cooled, small nuclear reactor. Internationally recognized for his expertise passive safety systems, testing, and operation of nuclear power plants, he is also a co-inventor on over 110 patents granted or pending all over the world. He is currently a fellow of the American Nuclear Society and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
