In a world so connected, it's hard to believe that loneliness is rapidly becoming one of our most alarming epidemics. The impact of loneliness is comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, increasing the risk of death by 26%. It's also a precursor to dementia, heart disease, and depression. Surprisingly, the stigma and shame surrounding loneliness are even more prevalent than those associated with mental health.

With an estimated 2.9 million Australian adults experiencing high levels of loneliness, Hans van Pelt joins me today to discuss why combating loneliness is a cause close to his heart and what we can do to make a difference.
