This is part two of a three part discussion with Joseph's parents, Leon and Dianne. Let us set the tone for this episode with a real example of dialogue that inspired this particular podcast topic.

Joseph’s kind response to the negative person: “Well, in fact, my dad IS so proud of me! Thank you!” :)
In this episode with Joseph Ryan and Donna Lee, talks again with Joseph’s amazing parents, Leon and Dianne! You get to hear Joseph’s dad, Leon, indeed talk about why he is so incredibly proud of his son and his son’s husband, Nathan, who he considers as another son. Leon and Dianne grew up in the 50’s and Leon shares how he was exposed to a very small, closed off gay culture in his circle early on. Leon struggled to understand why people weren't more accepting and he shares great examples from which he learned about love. Talk about a challenge with family, friends and even religious leaders telling you it’s not okay to be gay and if you have a gay child, just leave him alone until he “fixes it.” Can you imagine how hard the 50’s and 60’s were regarding acceptance of others who were “different”?!? Leon is so inspiring recanting what he went through to learn how to accept others for who they are and then to accept Joseph, his only gay child, for who he is. Now, Leon loves not only Joseph with all his heart, but he also loves Joseph’s husband, Nathan, with all his heart too. Tune in. You’ll love it.
