[embed]https://youtu.be/s4btIiofVf0[/embed] In this episode of " The Wonder Tooth Podcast", I would like to raise awareness that saliva can be contagious and literally transmit some infections. The reason of this episode is that I attended a show recently called " The Human Fountain" which was completely against any oral hygiene. Kissing can be contagious and spread some infections, so please this is a reminder to increase oral hygiene and personal hygiene in general. If your partner has Periodontal diseases, that needs to be immediately addressed.
  • Bacterial Presence: Saliva contains a variety of bacteria, both beneficial and harmful. When
  • Periodontal Pathogens: Specific bacteria associated with periodontal diseases, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola, can be present in saliva. These pathogens contribute to the development and progression of gum diseases.
  • Open Mouth Sores or Cuts: If either individual involved in kissing has open mouth sores, cuts, or wounds, the risk of transmitting bacteria increases. The pathogens present in saliva can easily enter the bloodstream through these openings.
  • Poor Oral Hygiene: Individuals with poor oral hygiene may have a higher concentration of harmful bacteria in their saliva.
  • Transmission of Inflammatory Molecules: Besides bacteria, saliva can carry inflammatory molecules associated with oral diseases. These molecules can contribute to the inflammatory response in the partner's mouth, potentially worsening existing periodontal conditions.
  • Risk of Cross-Infection: Engaging in intimate activities increases the risk of cross-infection, especially if one partner has an active periodontal infection.

It is important to note that while kissing can potentially contribute to the spread of periodontal diseases, maintaining good oral hygiene practices, regular dental check-ups, and addressing any oral health issues promptly can help mitigate these risks.
