Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for January 15th.

Now, here’s some food for thought: it’s National Bagel Day! Today, we celebrate that doughy, delicious, circular comfort food that has been a breakfast staple for generations. Whether you like it plain, piled high with cream cheese and lox, or turned into a breakfast sandwich masterpiece, bagels are proof that the simplest things can bring the most joy.

We've been focusing on achieving our goals for the year for the last week... so why not take a delicious circular break.

We deserve it, right?

That brings us to today’s quote, from actor Benjamin Bratt. You might know him from his roles in Miss Congeniality, Law & Order, or the animated hit Coco. He once said:

"Sometimes a little comfort food can go a long way."

Benjamin Bratt’s words are simple yet profound, much like a bagel itself. There’s something magical about comfort food—it’s not just about filling your stomach; it’s about feeding your soul. On a cold morning, there’s nothing quite like the warmth of a freshly toasted bagel in your hands. It’s a reminder that small comforts can make a big difference.

Life can get overwhelming, and while we can’t solve all our problems with a bagel, sometimes it’s enough to give us a moment of peace. That’s the power of comfort food—it’s a tiny slice of happiness in an otherwise chaotic world.

And let’s not forget that comfort food is about connection too. Bagels are the ultimate “sharing” food. They’re what you bring to a team meeting, a family brunch, or a casual get-together with friends. They bring people together, reminding us that sometimes the best comfort comes not just from the food itself but from the people we share it with.

So, on National Bagel Day, take Benjamin Bratt’s advice to heart. Treat yourself to a little comfort food today—whether it’s a classic sesame bagel, a sweet cinnamon raisin, or even a bold jalapeño cheddar. Sometimes, it’s the little things, like a warm bagel and a good cup of coffee, that make all the difference.

We had some friends over for New Years Eve and they brought some bagels from Montreal... you can't get those ones on the West Coast apparently.

Man... were they good.

I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me or not but they were so delicious. Someone once told me that Kentucky Fried Chicken tastes better in Kentucky. So I don't know...

But seriously... those bagels were awesome.

Thanks for tuning in to The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, wishing you a day filled with warmth, comfort, and maybe a bagel or two. Until tomorrow, take care—and remember, life’s better with a little comfort food along the way.

And I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time, same pod station with another Daily Quote.
