The distinctive and eerie aspect of these encounters is the alleged completely black or darkened eyes of the children, devoid of any discernible iris or sclera.

The encounters usually involve the children asking for help to gain entry to a vehicle, a home, or other private spaces. They often claim to be lost, scared, or in need of a phone call. The stories surrounding black-eyed children often induce feelings of unease and fear, with many people reporting an overwhelming sense of dread in their presence.
