Tarja Turunen has enjoyed a long solo career, one which began in 2007 with her breakout album “My Winter Storm.” More than ten years later, Tarja will release her best-of compilation, titled “Best Of: Living the Dream” on December 2. The album begins with new release “Eye of the Storm,” and is otherwise packed full of fan-favorites like “Until My Last Breath” for a truly exciting compilation. There are numerous songs with guest musicians, as well as single- and radio-edits of popular tracks, for a real highlight of her career’s variety. “Living the Dream” will also be released as a mediabook with two full albums of content, the second album including some of Tarja’s personal favorites as her career has grown and evolved.

Occupied with both her solo project and other endeavors, Tarja has recently embarked on a collaborative electronic music project, Outlanders. With numerous single releases over the past year, and with more to come, it’s a chance to hear Tarja like never before. Never one to shy away from experimentation, “Eye of the Storm” also branches beyond Tarja’s well-known gothic and classical style to explore the influence of tango in her work.

In the coming months Tarja will return to touring, beginning with a stretch of holiday performances across Europe this December, and additional tour dates to come in 2023. With albums such as 2006’s “Henkäys ikuisuudesta” under her belt, Tarja is no stranger to the magic of holiday music and its place in her career. But interviews have made one thing clear: “Living the Dream” and upcoming tours are just the beginning. There’s much more awaiting Tarja’s fans in the near future, and it’s worth keeping an eye on where she goes next.

Sonic Perspectives contributor Samantha Buckman spoke with Tarja about “Living the Dream,” the evolution of her career as a solo artist, and much more.
