The great writer and intellectual giant James Baldwin once stated, "there is simply no possibility of a real change in the Negros situation without the most radical and far-reaching changes in the American political and social structure." In this instance, James Baldwin is essentially describing systemic racism—a dysfunctional way of one group of people to hinder the progression of another group by way of social barriers. Is this indeed an exaggeration of the black lived experience in America, or is it indeed true that this country was designed to keep black people in a constant state of oppression? In this episode, I wish to discuss the notions of this potential exaggeration of victimhood and why we as a people may not be up to the task to foster significant change just yet.
