The Mincing Rascals this week are John Williams of WGN Radio, Eric Zorn, Publisher of The Picayune Sentinel, political pundit Marj Halperin, and Cate Plys, former staff writer at the Chicago Reader and political op-ed columnist at the Sun-Times and Tribune. This week the Rascals discuss the LSU women’s basketball team not being on the court during the playing of the national anthem before their game with Iowa. Is this a big deal or much ado about nothing? Also, the Rascals mince about the controversy surrounding Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez appearing at a protest where an American flag was burned. Chicago Public Media today announced 14 layoffs and the end of Vocalo radio broadcasts. Why is this such sad news for the local media landscape? Chicago aldermen advanced a measure to give the City Council final say over ShotSpotter funding. Would this technology be better utilized on a ward by ward basis? Marj doubts the effectiveness of the technology.
