Episode 26 of The Music Mind Podcast features Graham Jesse as my special guest. A professional multi-instrumentalist focusing primarily on saxophones and flutes, Graham has more than 40 years full-time industry experience at the highest level based out of Sydney, Australia.
As an educator, producer, recording and performing artist, composer and arranger, Graham has had significant professional experience working with top shelf musicians across a career that remains active today.
This podcast conversation covers a wide variety of topics including equipment choices, the importance of music education, arranging for large ensembles and fundamentals for instrumental success.
We see Graham perform in high profile Australian television shows, Tier 1 recording studios and also in smaller quartet and duo settings.
For the music collaboration between host and guest for this episode, Graham and I perform the Kenny Dorham composed jazz standard, Blue Bossa. Our arrangement features Graham taking the lead role on alto flute with support playing from Brian on the pedal steel guitar.
It is quite possibly the first time this jazz standard has been performed using alto flute in combination with pedal steel guitar as the two lead voices in the arrangement.
