Released in 1995, the film stars Luísito Martí, as Balbuena, a Dominican immigrant to the United States looking for his piece of the American dream. However, Balbuena faces innumerous difficulties as he transitions to his new like in New York City, and quickly regrets his decision to move to the Big Apple. An important film for Dominican Americans, “Nueva Yol,” became a cult classic at the time of its release, and interest in the film surged months back after the release of the cultural flop “In the Heights”.
