#07: Life's a Picnic - with Flora Bee
Manage episode 336686062 series 3363290
We begin this week with Flora Bee's reminiscences of a carefree family picnic by the river, back in the 1970s. This sparks a discussion on those simpler times when life was closer to an Enid Blyton novel than the modern world.
Next, Flora and I discuss the vibrant music and social scene of early 1990s Oxford, of which we were both a part. From busking in the Covered Market to a picnic of a different kind, it was an exciting time to be alive.
After recalling a memorable trip to Thailand around twenty years ago, we travel further back to 1930s Corfu, the setting for Gerald Durrell's book, My Family and Other Animals. What would he make of the island in its modern-day, tourist resort guise?
Then, we really get some mileage out of The Time Bubble, jumping back three thousand years to a time when early civilisations were gazing in awe at the stars, with not a street lamp in sight to spoil the view.
