J Dilla born James Dewitt Yancey (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006) hailed from Detroit, Michigan, and became one of the hottest hip-hop in the 90s and 2000s. He started with his group Slum Village and would go on to produce and remix hits for the likes of Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Brand New Heavies, Erykah Badu, Common, Q-Tip, and more, becoming one of the most influential hip-hop producers of all time.
