Kurt Maloo, best known as one half of the iconic pop duo Double, co-wrote and sang the timeless hit “The Captain of Her Heart,” the most enduring Swiss song to date. This global classic, with its haunting melody and poignant lyrics, continues to captivate audiences worldwide, earning a permanent place in music history.

Maloo's journey as a musician and artist began in the mid-1970s in Zurich, where he stood out not only as a singer and guitarist but also as a painter and member of the avant-garde Performance Art Group MAEZ. His creative evolution led to Troppo, an art-punk cult band, and then Ping Pong, a trio that gained recognition at the Montreux Jazz Festival. In the late 1970s, Maloo and drummer Felix Haug formed Double, a groundbreaking project that reached international success with their debut album Blue, selling millions of copies and solidifying their place in music history.

After Double disbanded, Maloo embarked on a solo career, releasing albums while balancing family life and creative exploration. His music retained the introspective, cinematic quality that had defined his work with Double. Albums like Summer of Better Times and What About showcase his ability to craft songs that evoke vivid imagery and emotional depth, blending elements of pop, jazz, and rock with his signature poetic touch.

Maloo’s collaborations span the globe, from working with international musicians like violinist Maria Fausta Rizzo and Croatia’s Putokazi choir to embracing digital technology to exchange ideas and create music across borders. His versatility is evident in his latest project, Off The Record, a series of EPs launched in 2023. This fresh endeavor sees Maloo experimenting with new sounds, including singing in Spanish and revisiting his 1966 Fender Stratocaster.

Reflecting on his career, Maloo’s 2006 album Loopy Avenue revisited the legacy of Double and served as a tribute to Felix Haug, who passed away in 2004. With this chapter behind him, Maloo remains focused on the present, crafting music that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. His voice, warm and resonant, continues to deliver songs that connect deeply with listeners, proving that his artistry only grows richer with time.
