For Jerry & Fern, young teenagers in Los Angeles (Huntington Park) at the time, artists like Banda Machos made it cool to be paisa. Before this, being too Mexican was low-key embarrassing. Vicente, Juan Gabriel, Los Bukis - anything perceived as too Mexican was outdated or corny. This was the era of Death Row and 90s Hip-Hop. Grunge, MTV. REAL TALK Banda Machos was unapologetic and kept the torch burning for Mexican music during the 1990s. Today, musica regional is massive and only growing in popularity.
