Vonda Pelto, Ph.D., is on the James Lowe Radio Show talking about how first job as a Clinical Psychologist was so fascinating it became a book, Without Remorse: The Story of the Woman Who Kept Los Angeles' Serial Killers Alive, that is a rather chilling look at her spending over three years dealing with serial killers and other high-profile criminals at the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail. Following the suicide of a serial killer awaiting trial, who was supposed to testify against his accomplice William Bonin, she was hired to keep all the those awaiting trail, both serial killers and others, occupied and not thinking about killing themselves. Vonda tells James Lowe about her initial thoughts about the job and how she kept a audio recorder handy to record her thoughts, feelings and document various incidents that might make the contents of an interesting book. The psychological fallout from hearing serial killers describe their crimes changed her personality and ushered in horrible nightmares that lasted years and made it impossible for her to write the book for quite a long time.
