This is the week that a lot of Americans have been waiting for. This week, we celebrate Thanksgiving[/def]. Some people call it ‘turkey day’ because we all eat turkey on that day. Check out a conversation Sara and Steph had last week about the big day.
❷ Dialogue
Steph: So, Sara, what are you doing for the holidays?
Sara: Well, for Thanksgiving my family always goes out to a restaurant to eat.
Steph: Do you really? Which restaurant do you go to?
Sara: We go to the Heathman downtown. They have really good food. And so, it’s fun because everybody gets to have what they want to eat. Instead of just turkey, ya know, I’ll have like salmon or something. So, it’s fun.
Steph: Do you like turkey?
Sara: I do like turkey but I just like salmon more.
Steph: Really? So when you go out on Thanksgiving, you don’t order the turkey then?
Sara: No. I usually don’t. My dad always does, cause he likes to be traditional. But I usually have salmon or something like that.
Steph: What about the rest of your family. Are they more traditional? Or?
Sara: My brother’s pretty traditional. My mom usually has salmon with me, too.
Steph: Oh. That’s cool. Do you guys have desserts?
Sara: Yeah. We usually do have dessert. They usually always have pumpkin pie, which I don’t really like. So, I get something with chocolate.
Steph: Yeah. Chocolate’s better than pumpkin.
Sara: I think so.
So what do you guys do for Thanksgiving?
Steph: Oh. We stay home and cook turkey and make mashed potatoes and eat desserts and sleep.
Sara: That sounds like fun. Do you watch, um, football games or anything?
Steph: No. I’m not really into that.

Normally, on holidays, we stay home with our family. Sara’s family is special because they go out for Thanksgiving. She said that her dad thinks her mom should have a holiday, too. That’s a really nice treat for her because she doesn’t have to cook all day.
