This week, and in keeping with the conversations we’ve been having about racial inequalities in the UK, we look into policing and law enforcement. We do an overview of the history and structure of police departments in England, Scotland and Wales, and delve into inequalities in crime, in the police force, and how these impact and are impacted by a host of other socioeconomic factors. We also talked through Keir Starmer’s response to the BLM ‘Defund the police’ campaign on BBC Breakfast, and discuss how Labour should be approaching the policing policies in the coming months and years.

Speakers:

Amarvir Singh - Economist and Vice Chair of the YF Economy and Finance Network

Milad Amini - https://twitter.com/miladamini123 Ex-Voluntary Police Officer, Parliamentary Assistant and Secretary of the YF Law Network

James Potts - https://twitter.com/JamesPotts GLA Politico and Chair of the YF Devolution and Local Government Network

Carolina Saludes - https://twitter.com/CarolinaSaludes Podcast Producer and YF Vice Chair
