今天节目中我们一起来学习两个单词的用法。

1. hail，这个单词以前你可能听说过hail a taxi/cab，可以理解成“挥手叫出租车”；此时的hail怎么理解呢？to signal to a taxi or a bus, in order to get the driver to stop

eg: Shall we hail a taxi?

我们要挥手拦一辆出租车吗？

但是今天视频中hail的用法明显不一样。今天视频中hail的用法类似于昨天节目中出现的applaud，英文中常说hail sb./sth. (as sth.) 可以理解成：“为……喝彩；夸赞……为……；把……誉为……”这个含义；

to describe sb./sth. as being very good or special, especially in newspapers, etc.

或者to say publicly how good or important something is；

eg: The conference was hailed as a great success.

这次会议被誉为一次巨大的成功。

eg: He is being hailed a hero for saving a young child from drowning.

由于救了一个年幼的溺水儿童，他被誉为英雄。

eg: The crowds hailed the boxing champion.
