We hope you enjoy this episode with humble waterwoman extraordinaire Gabriella Bella. We get the low down on Gabriella's watersports history and she does her best to dial in Freddie's shimming game. Listen to this episode and rate the podcast 5 stars or we'll all get personally offended. Peace out.
We sit down with Mario's twin brother Luigi to see what has been going down on the continent. This episode was recorded a couple of months ago, just after the Crozon foil event. We talk about: - The learning process for all disciplines - The difference styles of events as the scene develops - How many stroopwafels are required to complete a downwind run the length of the Netherlands and much more... As always, we hope you enjoy this one. Peace out, The world's best foiling podcast.…
We very briefly met Simeon in Hood River, but as he was just finishing up his Voyager Clinic with paying clients we didn't all have the time to sit down together over a Modelo. Thankfully through the power of the internet we've managed it! You can't have missed the impact the Voyager Foiling crew have had on the downwind scene over the past few years and we were really looking forward to sitting down with the man behind the hats! We chat through all things Voyager as well as Simo's thoughts on the surf culture and how it impacts the newer downwind scene. Fingers crossed we get to share a beer with the man himself along with the rest of the Voyager crew at some point in the future. If you like what we're about, you're extremely welcome to support via https://buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast. All proceeds go towards funding trips in 2025 to bring better interviews, Podcast equipment and even the odd beer on occasion...…
Prior to meeting this pair at AWSI this year, we knew little to nothing about the two of them, and yet they're some of the most hard-working and influential people in the foiling game right now. Within minutes of meeting and chatting to Caitlyn over a margarita at Hood River's no.1 mexican 'Taqueria', Liam had decided she needed to be in front of the mic, and having the couple sit down together was a bonus. A lot was covered in this conversation, and I'd be surprised if anyone didn't feel inspired both on and off the water having listened to it. FYI: whilst it isn't essential to listen to episode 80 with Paul Martin prior to this one, it is referenced, and you're bound to enjoy both, so if you haven't already, consider listening to that first. Catch you all in the new year - Happy 2024/2025!…
Here we are again - back round to our now traditional Wanglordz Christmas Episode in the Hot Tub. Usuaully we'd prepare you not to expect too much tech talk while we're sinking brewskies and re-living the year - but this ones a doozie. Over three hours we sat in the tub, and we managed to only discuss 2 of a possible 10 christmassy items we had jotted down to bring up. It'd been a while since we all caught up together and we were all a bit too excited. It gets a little loose in places.... all in the interest of comedy! Always a nightmare to suss out editing 4 different drunk people's audio, especially with 0 degree temperatures nailing our microphone batteries - please go easy on us, we're trying! Merry Christmas! If you like what we're doing, and you want to throw a few beer tokens under our Christmas tree - check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast - you'll hear at the end of the chat what our plans are starting to look like for 2025, and it aint gonna be easy!…
Old mate Ryan came for a chat this week. We didn't get time to record anything in America so he joined us online to discuss how he's gotten to where he is now. Coach, marketing guru at KT Foiling, some mysterious role at Foildrive we never got to the bottom of and Foiling Magazines Friday Pump newsletter author..... such a large amount of roles to digest. Ryan recently came back from Hawaii after the Foilers of Oahu event and we delve into his views on surf foil style, progression within our disciplines and even how motivation keeps us learning - sounds a bit progression podcasty, right? Well - he's got some great thoughts so it was worth discussing! Ryan also pulls out some gold from his actual foiling diary from when he was learning, which definitely led us down a rabbit hole. Christmas Episode coming next..... If you like what we're doing, we're aiming to use any donations to our buymeacoffee account to fund getting to the 2025 AWSI as well as a couple of other ideas that are forming in our head. We may buy the odd beer out of it too - but we're hoping to use the bulk to churn out as much content as we can for everyone. Check the page out here - https://buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast…
An excellent episode with one of our favourite pairs in the foiling game. Passionate, positive, and inspiring individuals who have turned a niche product segment and brand into a household name within the foiling industries. They've managed to get Freddie excited about leashes! We had the pleasure of hanging out with Karen and Roy on the beach in San Diego (fuelled by her home baked goodies) and followed the session with a recording where we dive into the origin of the grip leash concept and how an idea turned into a product which quickly secured market share. Frank’s boards have had people murmuring and whatsapping naughty photos back and forth for a while now. We were lucky enough to see them in the flesh in Hood River…our man Luke wouldn't shut up about getting hold of one. Liam managed to have a good chat with him in the states on the AXIS stand at AWSI. Surprisingly, stood in front of a couple of Frank made boards with full red Axis livery and logos, when asked what the deal is between Frank and Adrian (Axis), they both laughed and replied with “we don’t know yet, that’s what we are here to find out”. So, we were very happy to sit down and learn more now that we’re a few weeks on and an agreement seems to have come to fruition . Italian born, Maui based. Working for Quattro and his neighbour Mark Raphorst has given this ex kitesurfer a massive amount of experience to begin experimenting with his downwind board designs. His downwind shape design is the main point of conversation, but we do delve into his parawinging thoughts, midlength and his prone shapes too. If you like what we're up to, check out https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast. We recon we did a pretty decent job of accruing a tonne of recordings out of the 2024 AWSI event, and we wanna do it again! Someone’s gotta do it, right?!…
He doesn't need any introductions, he's been weasling his way onto our screens since the beginnings of foiling and he's all over the social media's. Managing to squeeze himself now into the pivotal marketing role at Code Foils and as a worldwide Foildrive Ambassador! We'd been trying to line things up with Josh for a long time, but he's a busy man and our mega social media prowess also means we're busy nowadays too! FINALLY at the AWSI event we got to meet the man himself, firstly in a diner over breakfast in town of all places. The show was busy for all of us, so we decided to use jet lag to our advantage and record as early as possible, on the beach at Hood River Event site - hence the awesome cover photo. A beautiful backdrop, with the rest of the industry setting up their tents behind us as we learnt about Josh's background and his views on foiling as it is today. For those of you who are most keen on finding out how the roofing trade is in Australia, you'll love this episode. Josh gives us a great run through of his trade of choice...... with a little bit of foiling too.…
Daniela Moroz - 6x Formula Kite World Champion, 4x US Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year, 2024 Olympian. When we chatted with Daniela, she had not long come back from representing the USA in the first ever formula kite olympic competition in Marseille, France...what a wild ride she had. In this podcast she tells us all about he introductions to kite foiling, her experience as an olympic favourite entering the games, the still unclear outcome of the final rounds and much much more. Daniela wears her heart on her sleeve, is an impressive sailor, impressive athlete, impressive all around person and both genuinely lovely and inspiring. We were supposed to meet her in person to record this episode whilst on the road in the states but her hectic schedule pulled her away from home. Now that we've had a couple of hours chatting the chat, we're even more motivated to get a mic under her nose in person. Thanks again for your time Daniela!…
Bring on the Frenchies! In come Richard and Benoit from AFS foils, to give us some insight in how they've exploded onto the scene over the last couple years. Richard is a man who's been around the industry a long time - previously as a pro kiter for Flexifoil back in the days before that brand exploded loudly.... He's since started as 'International Business Developer' at AFS and also been smashing the downwinding in France. Benoit lives in Texas is heading up the distribution of AFS and Sooruz wetsuits in the US. Together they give us a run through of the brand and its ethos Another Episode from the AWSI show that was made possible by you, the listeners! We aim to get back there again next year if we can to build on this years content - if you wanna make that more possible, check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast…
Dylan Shewfelt - everybody's favourite 'Uncle Knobhead' Liam was invited a while ago now to the 2023 North Dealer Meeting in Portugal to review some kites for IKsurf and TONIC Magazine. There, he bumped into Dylan and instantly decided they would be friends. As someone else who was there not only to try the new products but to also hunt for the best conditions possible to try said products. No point trying wave kit in flat water conditions, right?! Fast forward to our little AWSI trip and they got to hang out again and Freddie was introduced. Dylan is there wearing many hats. He is there as a customer, there helping out on the North stand, browsing other products all while competing against us for 'Best Podcasters at AWSI' with his 'X Foils' show and 'Best looking podcasters at the AWSI'. He only won the later of those. Dylan is another very resourceful bloke with fingers in many pies in our Industry that everyone seems to know - his energy is annoyingly infectious. He also rips on anything water related. Its frustrating. Eitherway, we got time to sit down at 7am and chat and we all loved it. Enjoy!…
Johnny might not need any introduction to anyone that has been interested in windsports for a while, but they might need a hand picking him out of a crowd as he masks himself and lurks in the shadows. Ken Adgate introduced us to this hooded fella, hood elastic synched tight to cover as much of his face as possible, and also wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.... it was only the one and only Johnny Heineken! This was a super fun, super relaxed episode recorded on the grass of the 2024 AWSI event site in Hood River, Oregon. We hope you've been enjoying this series of podcasts from our trip to the USA. It wouldn't have been possible without listener support so, if you haven't already, please consider supporting us if you like what we do and check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast…
