Dylan has many strong song-writing attributes but chief amongst these strengths has got to be his ability to create a narrative song. Paul explores his narrative power by featuring three finely crafted Dylan narratives - Caribbean Wind, Workingman Blues # 2, and 'Cross Green Mountain. For even the low level Dylan historian(myself), we recall that the bulk of Dylan's popular work was done in the 60s and 70s. So what was he doing in the 80s? His albums suggest that he found Jesus and also did some musical drifting, typical of Dylan's mystique. Well, I was intrigued by a Dylan album labeled "Best of the 80s", so I decided to explore more of that era. Unsurprisingly, treasure was found. Even during his seemingly least prolific era, Dylan was making tunes that most musicians would envy. The 80s choices are: Pressing On and Series of Dreams. Finally, Dylan just released his critically applauded album "Tempest". We'll play a few favorites from the new album and, of course, would love to play some pre-show requests. If you have a favoritie Dylan song that fits the narrative theme, 80s era or is off the new album, send your request to denvercellar@gmail.com or post the request on our facebook page. We hope to hear from you.…
M83 has hit the indie music scene with some serious power. Their latest release Hurry Up, We're Dreaming gained major critical acclaim, posted high on all the major international record charts, and rocketed the band into stardom. The band has been swimming through the underground since the early 2000s but now they're becoming a hipster heroes. M83 played live at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Oct 2nd 2012 and Nolan A. Foot was there. Foot will give you the run down of the show and how it rocked. He'll play some of the top M83 songs, and give you a nice little slice of who this band really is Meanwhile, an epic pair, Brit Daniel and Dan Boeckner teamed up to release an epic album under the name Divine Fits. When Foot heard about this pairing he knew greatness was inevitable. As the front man of Spoon, Brit Daniel has earned his stripes in the Austin music scene with a long career that reaches back the early 90s. He is well known and well loved in the indie Rock n Roll scene and has a wonderful knack for producing great music. Dan Boeckner, on the other hand has made his mark in the last 7 years with a couple cutting edge bands: Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs. Hailing from Canada he has been a valuable asset for grunge champions Sup Pop Records and released some innovative music that really rocks! Foot will play a few of his favorites off the new Divine Fits album and give you some history that led to this place. It's going to be a kick in the pants!…
Merk and Mike host. Call in and tell us if we're fools or wise men regarding the following topics: 1) NFL replacement refs Who deserves the most blame? Where does Roger Goodell stack up against other league commissioners? This would be a good point to argue, since I still believe David Stern is guilty of this on a nightly basis with superstar favoritism and home court officiating. 2) Broncos outlook What is holding back progress on the offensive side of the ball? Is it Peyton clearing the cob webs or is it the fact that this group of personnel just isn't ready to play with someone of PM's caliber? Why is coaching staff holding PM back? McCoy and Fox are far too conservative - don't understand how to utilize a player's strengths Prediction for Raiders game 3) Funny news story of the week 4) CU / CSU A glimmer of hope after Wash St win or will that be the only win of the year? How much more time do you give Embree to prove he's capable of being a head coach? CSU - After showing some promise against CU, what went wrong? Wasn't CSU's schedule supposed to be a cupcake this year? Does McElwain have the right philosophy? 5) Top 5 tweets of the week @TJLang70: Got f***** by the refs…embarrassing. Thanks nfl@TJLang70: F*** it NFL.. Fine me and use the money to pay the regular refs…
The title says it all. the Foot N. Art Cella and his pops Paul J Cella Jr. spin some of the greatest oldie rock n roll records ever recorded. Buddy Holly was like a lightining strike in a brush field; he hit the world quick and created something that spread like wild fire, but if you blinked you missed the strike. His story is tragic and endearing. He's the guy "next door of rock n roll", gone before the loss of innocence. Buddy Holly is an undeniable genius. This man influenced all those that followed. He is the original hippster. His birthday is September 7, so we're timing this just right. It's gonna be a wonderful set. enjoy.…

Howdy pardner! Getty-up and prepare for a tour through some country and western greats. Nolan and Joe will explore some country classics and display some of the new young bucks that sit outside the country pop scene. Well the show turned out to be pretty disjointed but wonderfully organic. It was Willie Nelson heavy and full of heart and soul. Also why we love making the Denver Cellar, things can get hectic, but it often leads to gold. Get long little doggies and enjoy the ride.…

White Denim bassist Steve Terebecki joins for a chat. We feature two songs from their album "D". Simple format: 2012 keepers. We've got four picked that we think make the cut so far. Might be easy to disagree. Katy Perry probably won't make the cut. God Bless her. B, Nols and myself will provide two songs each. We'll also re-visit other highlights of the doce. If you've got any requests, now is the time. Here's a preview of some of the tracks: The Shins - It's Only Life Wiz Khalifa - Work Hard, Play Hard Dr. John - You Lie Andrew Bird - Danse Caribe…
The Everybody's Talking at Me Guy. Nilsson's music is ubiquitous. A lot of his songs are recognizable but you probably can't remember who sang it. Well, this show is going to help you remember. In his early career, he became famous for an incredible voice. In his later career, he became famous for his carousing and the destruction of his blessed pipes while partying with John Lennon. The guy was a combination of gloriousness and a slow motion train wreck. It's likely that if he hadn't been such an independent, hornery cuss he could've gone huger than huge. He did things his own way and probably shot some airballs along the way. Still, you have to respect that he stuck to his guns. Partying, Partying. The Code-man's back. Harry's his boy. He'll take us through some selections. Here's a sample of some of the tracks: Miss Butler's Lament Salmon Falls Cuddly Toy Popeye Theme Music Without You You're Breaking My Heart Everybody's Talking…
Technically summer starts at midnight but we want to kick it off early. We'll run through some summer jams. They'll span the genres. Classics and new specials. Pull out your beach towel and throw it right there on the carpet in your living room, put your hands behind your head, lay-back and enjoy.
It's a frequently untapped vein in the Dylan gold mine . . . his humor We're gonna lay down five properly comedic Dylan songs, with perhaps the best line of all coming right at the end of Black Diamond Bay. Tune in to see why we think Dylan's wit ain't half frigging bad. Also, if you have a favorite Dylan song with a humorous element, send us the name of it and a quick synopsis of the comedy, and we might play it as the final song. Iconoclastic, eccentric, sexy, gay, unstable, imaginative, groundbreaking, self-involved, brilliant. David Jones, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane. Regardless of all the descriptions that have been ascribed to Bowie over the years, one thing's for sure, the man produced a plethora of quality music. Bowie is one of rock's most intriguing figures. Polarizing and odd yet sensational, his music withstood the test of time and now has passed into that honored category of innovative. For people born in the 80s, we can only access Bowie by combing through his albums. How sweet would it have been to catch a live show during his pop explosion? We can only imagine. Well, during this show, we'll spend some time exploring Bowie from the perspective of a couple of thirty year olds. While we can't claim carnal knowledge, we can certainly admire the scene, with the Code man as your tour guide. Playlist: Sound and Vision Station to Station Starman Ashes to Ashes Oh! You Pretty Things Five Years…
Whether you have taken care of business and gotten your taxes all finished up months in advance, or if you're like most of us cramming all night to get your taxes filed, tune-in and enjoy some exploration of how those musically inclined deal with Uncle Sam nabbing his fair share. Many come across like our lovely Treasury Secretary determined to avoid the tax bill, others lobby to hand over more and more. Regardless we'll sit back and have some fun putting you in the the 1040 mood. Happy April 15th!!!!…
