TechSurge: Deep Tech VC Podcast

Artificial intelligence is evolving at an unprecedented pace—what does that mean for the future of technology, venture capital, business, and even our understanding of ourselves? Award-winning journalist and writer Anil Ananthaswamy joins us for our latest episode to discuss his latest book Why Machines Learn: The Elegant Math Behind Modern AI . Anil helps us explore the journey and many breakthroughs that have propelled machine learning from simple perceptrons to the sophisticated algorithms shaping today’s AI revolution, powering GPT and other models. The discussion aims to demystify some of the underlying math that powers modern machine learning to help everyone grasp this technology impacting our lives, even if your last math class was in high school. Anil walks us through the power of scaling laws, the shift from training to inference optimization, and the debate among AI’s pioneers about the road to AGI—should we be concerned, or are we still missing key pieces of the puzzle? The conversation also delves into AI’s philosophical implications—could understanding how machines learn help us better understand ourselves? And what challenges remain before AI systems can truly operate with agency? If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform. Fun chat with Gordon Maclelland from the UK, CEO of WWPIS (Working With Parents in Sport)! I enjoyed hearing Gordon's perspective on being a sports parent, the experience that sparked the development of the Parents in Sport website, who he feels the greatest influence is in a child's youth sports experience, some tips on what to do when your child makes mistakes and/or doesn't seem to be giving their very best effort, and all kinds of other great concepts for parents to keep in mind as we navigate this competitive world of sports with our children. Read an interview featuring Coach Matt Lisle and his thoughts on giving athletes permission to fail in order to help them succeed and that sparked the thoughts shared in this episode. Playing to win, playing to not to lose, and how that relates to fear based "motivation" vs the alternative. Kept it short and sweet for this one! Enjoy and also check out the article I'm referencing at https://inside.heja.io/permission-to-fail-how-to-help-young-athletes-succeed-7b5525752e12…

I have a 2017 grad and a daughter scheduled to graduate in 2019. Who would've thought that I'd be filling out a FAFSA for a new college student in 2018? My daughter, who graduated last year, and decided to go to work instead of college, now had another chance to possibly get back on the mat and become a collegiate athlete. We shall see where this goes ?…
