What Should I Do With My Money?

Camilla, a teacher in her late thirties, is ready to pull back from full-time work and travel the world. Despite paying off significant student debt by teaching overseas, she has deep-seated money anxiety stemming from a difficult childhood and fears running out of funds. With $800,000 saved, Camila’s wondering how to withdraw her retirement savings in a tax-efficient way while ensuring her portfolio’s continued growth. In this episode, Camilla sits down with Crystal, a Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor, and discusses her options, including tax-loss harvesting to offset capital gains taxes, Roth IRA conversions and a high-yield emergency savings fund . ×We started this episode off by looking back on the early 2000's pyramid scheme known as "2by2.net" which led us to revisit other great American sales schemes such as timeshares, prepaid legal, and fancy kitchenware sets. After that we talked about bad YouTube tutorials and conspiracy videos. In the second half we talked more about XL Middleton's new album "2 Minutes Till Midnight" coming in May and XL's greater musical path stepping away from hip hop then coming back. We finished in top form with an interesting tidbit about the Michael Jackson documentary and how one of MJ's accusers has an interesting link to the Slacker Pad's hometown of Pasadena, CA. Music featured on this episode: Olli - "All Funk"…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

Back like we never left, XL Middleton, Rev, Matix, & Kevin Hustlehoff & the homie..."Jimmy?" break down life's deepest nuances such as the great deception of Wienerschitzel, diploma mill colleges, and being old while putting out rap albums. Speaking of which, XL talks about his forthcoming g-funk project "2 Minutes Till Midnight" and plays a new track from the album. A lot of ground got covered this episode, even if it's debatable that the ground needed to be covered to begin with. Music featured on this episode: Brian Ellis - Bulletproof Brian Ellis - My Favorite Song Sven Atterton - Purple License Koolade - Reminisce Sunshine XL Middleton - Where We About To Take It (Salvation) The Slacker Pad - Something In My Cup XL Middleton - Coast Wit Me (feat. XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

First PADcast of 2019! Kev finally got a chance to see Rev's neighborhood bar, the one he went to over 200 times last year. Yikes! Kev gives his review of this fine establishment at 1:30. We gave our reactions to some constructive criticism from a listener (7:38). Of course we kept it civil and exceptionally mature. XL gave a little post-event wrap up on his Pop Lock Funk party as well as Modern Funk Fest DJ Summit. The crew discusses what happens when you bring your own alcohol to the club (10:30) and offer a few life hacks on how to stay discreet about it. We talked about that Bird Box movie in spite of the fact that only 2 out of 4 of us have seen it (14:52). Actually we focused more on the bigger picture, how using memes and social media culture to promote products is savvy but also annoying. We tried to talk about our favorite albums from 2018 (16:50) but quickly realized that our now-shortened attention spans combined with the never-ending supply of great new music meant there was a bigger picture there too. We dove into current habits of listening to music 'passively,' and talked a little about how this gave rise to the era of instrumental/beat albums. After talking about what we did on New Years Eve, it became clear that we needed to address the feeling of being 'unfairly compelled' to party hard on NYE (30:26). Music featured on this episode: Bobby Nunn - "Cherry Pie" (Avant Garde Records, 2018)…

XL, Matix, & Kev are joined by 1stBeatz for this episode. Rev missed out again so of course we roasted him. Aside from that, we posed a question which might upset you just by reading it: Is today's hip hop the only truly original music style out there? We talked about the weird American obsession with putting manure on our lawns, and then about Spotify Wrapped. Opinions were mixed. And then we got to the good part: XL talked about his decision to pull the PADcast episode with Zackey Force Funk and why he did it. We know you're curious so listen in. Music featured on this episode: Louis Cole - Weird Part Of The Night Adam Chini - Waiting All Night (feat. Sair & Boy Dude)…
The crew is joined by I, Ced on this episode, and a special announcement is made - I, Ced will be dropping an album with MoFunk Records. Tune in for details, plus plenty of quintessential Slacker Pad banter: Reminiscing on using freeware to make beats in the early 2000's, what happens when XL talks Trump with Europeans while on tour, the creeps that hang around Long Beach, and buying edibles for our parents. You're welcomed to grab a tequila & soda (XL's drink of the moment), pull up a seat and join us. Music featured on the podcast: Mofak - "Body Move" Mofak - "Low Low" The Kount & Falcxne - "Shakedown"…

The final episode of our Europe Bonus series is named after an E-40 song. Props if you know which one! Then we talked about a bunch of disjointed stuff from porn and chocolate shakes to the fact that the US is the only country where you can have medical insurance and still pay less for a new pair of glasses with a Groupon. Tune in and get ready for new episodes of the PADcast in 2 weeks!…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

It's episode 3/4 of our Europe Bonus series. Rev & XL Middleton sit down and discuss life. Rev breaks down his infamous mantra "life ain't nothing but a porno & a come up." XL premiered another new edit from an upcoming release and broke down a little more life theory on edits in general, and how people use edits to attach their names to music they didn't make. XL & Rev reminisce on homies from Pasadena trying to structure their record labels as non-profit organizations and how funny that was. Music featured on this episode: XL Middleton - I Will Be There (Edit, UNRELEASED EXCLUSIVE)…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

For part 2/4 of our Europe Bonus series, Brandon joined us and the low key bitter wave commenced. We complained about living in a society where everybody smiles at each other for no reason, and tried to dissect why it's irritating when people constantly ask for recommendations on Facebook. Music featured on this episode: XL Middleton - Better Friend (feat. Moniquea) XL Middleton - Prelude To The Invasion XL Middleton - Time Out (Edit, UNRELEASED EXCLUSIVE)…

Welcome to part 1 of 4 in our "Europe Bonus" series of episodes that we recorded prior to XL leaving so we could continue to bring you fresh content while the tour is going on. XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

Listen in as XL Middleton, Matix, Kevin Hustlehoff, and Brandon (taking the place of Rev who was out this week) talk about the future of the podcast itself. We wondered, why do we always talk about hip hop when we clearly don't know shit about it? Much of our 90's golden era knowledge has faded and we finally had the courage to admit it. Aaaaand then we talked about hip hop again. We wondered when the idea of rappers "selling out" stopped being a thing. XL actually found a Black Eyed Peas song he likes. We talked about why boxing culture is the worst, and why American sports culture in general is the worst. That led us into a greater convo about how and why American culture at large pushes the myth of what makes a "real man." Hint - It's more guns and football than integrity and kindness. XL's excited to get away from all that madness for him and Moniquea's Europe tour. Music featured on this episode: Max Kane & Trailer Limon - "Ego Death" (Omega Supreme Records)…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

With XL in Portland for Modern Funk Fest, Rev, Matix, & Kev took it upon themselves to record an episode on their own. Much of this episode is devoted to a review of the surprise Eminem album that dropped recently. Like, much of this episode. Aside from that, Rev talked about the dangers of Ubering while tired. The Pad dropped some life game for better navigating Xvideos. Pay attention fellas!…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

We're giving you a special two-part episode this week! This second half was recorded after XL got back from Portland and checked out the first part. He responded with his own review of Eminem's "Kamikaze" album. Did it really deserve all the praise that the crew gave it during Pt. 1? XL also breaks down the difference between serious creation and "elevated kick it sessions," where people come together under the premise of creating but are really more interested in chilling, drinking, and smoking. Where does one draw the line and where does The PADcast fall on that spectrum? As always, it's an entertaining peek into the mind of your favorite neighborhood modern funkster and the crew. Music featured on this episode: Polyester The Saint - "Can I Put The Whip In Yo Name" G-Nof - "Partly Cloudy"…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

XL was in Portland over the weekend so we're giving you some bonus content from our Episode #027 session. Rev makes a stunning entrance about half way through and the crew talks about a few things we know you'll relate to: Why record stores need to have plastic bags instead of paper, awkwardness in the Uber pool, and some drama from the last decade over burnt CD's. No music on this episode, just straight talk!…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

It's another episode of sophisticated music and highly unsophisticated conversation between XL Middleton, Rev, Matix, & Kevin Hustlehoff. We did an event recap of the Hit+Run party where XL DJ'ed and Zackey Force Funk performed live. We told classic stories of Rev hangovers and he also started a new segment, Rev's Question Of The Week. We discussed old rappers pushing weed dispensaries and the now-defunct hoe stroll on Colorado Boulevard. You're sure to either get some laughs out of this episode or get put on to your new jam of the week. Hopefully both? XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

XL, Rev, & Matix recap the Echo Park Rising edition of Modern Funk Fest (sans Kevin Hustlehoff, who's getting bolder with his excuses for not coming to the podcast - or lack thereof!). From there, the crew gets deep into their music bag, with XL sharing a bunch of new music he's been listening to and letting that spark the conversation, which includes discussions about how rappers aren't cool anymore for blowing weed smoke around in music videos since it's legal, a little history on the Pasadena record shops that vinyl nerds might have missed out on, and a shallow dive on whether or not talkboxing is overdone in funk music (we plan to unpack this more on a future episode, things are sure to get spicy!). Music featured on this episode: Kool Customer (B. Bravo & Rojai) - Blackberry Shiro Schwarz - Under The Moonlight LNDN DRGS - Susan Denzel Curry - Cash Maniac (prod. We're gonna tell you from the jump: Rev wasn't able to make it again this episode, but we made up for it by reminiscing on some of our favorite Rev stories, including him diffusing fights because he's got nothing but love in his heart, and also starting fights for the same reason. If that's confusing you'll just have to listen! The homie Danny aka Laker Dan joined us and we talked about all kinds of crazy shit, including: - The trash environment that is going to see the homies perform at pay-to-play rap shows - Lebron joining the Lakers (finally had to talk about it because Laker Dan was in the studio) - Phones listening to you talk to your friends then showing you ads based on it - Etiquette on sending women dick pics This episode was fun and funny from start to finish. Plus XL played us a cut from his upcoming EP on ABC Records. Shout out to Austin Boogie Crew! Music featured on this episode: XL Middleton - Digital Devils…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

We started in fine form by going on a deep dive about the first Bone Thugs album "Faces Of Death," recorded under the group name B.O.N.E. Enterprise, for those not knowing. Important knowledge got dropped. Rev went from camping to sailing on this episode - He missed this episode to take to the open seas for his birthday on a cruise, and we had plenty to say about it. We talked about La Croix again. People like it. It's good. But why do we act like flavored sparkling water didn't exist before? We addressed all the whiners talking shit about producers using Apple Loops to make beats. Let's see you produce a good track with Apple Loops, busters. A little food for thought: It's harder to believe rappers claiming to pimps than claiming to be drug dealers or killers. We discussed in depth. Music featured on this episode: B.O.N.E. XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

The crew starts with a deep dive about ball deodorant & then discusses Rev's recent camping trip. Kevin gives it up to Jonathan Gold (R.I.P.). XL talked about the lies he told to get a medical weed card years before it was legal. The crew discussed giving fake ID's to Facebook so you can keep your fake name, and why more of this hasn't happened. Things get unexpectedly heated when the crew debates banks screwing people over with overdrafts. And most importantly, XL gave a sneak preview of his new single "Cool Minute," dropping soon! Happy birthday Rev! Be sure to check out XL Middleton & Matix aka Jonimal spinning all g-funk, all night for Summertime In The LAC (LA Chinatown) at Melody Lounge, Saturday, August 4th. XL Middleton & Rev recorded this episode live from the release party for Zackey Force Funk's Bodyrock Shotgun at the Love Song Bar in Downtown LA. It's a quick episode - we had just enough time to get a few words from a few folks, including ZFF himself, as well as: Kaiography talked about doing photography for Zackey's album. Chris Keene gave us a few words about Sweater Funk and the end of their weekly parties. Hotthobo talked with Rev about meeting for the first time a few years ago, and how Rev wanted to sign with Voltaire to put out his trap album. Shout out to our Activate LA homies! We talked to them too but couldn't include it in the episode because one of the mic cables was going in & out. Pick up Bodyrock Shotgun, out now on MoFunk Records!…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

XL Middleton & The Slacker Pad started this episode talking about the inevitable fact that brand-sponsored funerals are coming, and what fuckery would ensue if your tombstone had a screen on it that you could sync your photo library to. Rev discussed the new G-Funk documentary, lightweight, since the rest of us haven't seen it yet. Rev also explains to us why all-nude strip clubs are worse than topless-only. We talked about various controversies, including more white people complaining in the Bay, Papa John's, and the Mayer Hawthorne / Souls Of Mischief / "Heiro" incident. Matix gave us a list of songs that HE doesn't wanna hear in the club anymore. The crew went into a deep dive about what you might name your menu items if you opened a hip hop-themed sandwich restaurant. Corn levels reach critical height on this one! Zackey Force Funk "Bodyrock Shotgun" dropping Friday, July 20th! Get it from mofunkrecords.com and come to the release party at Love Song Bar in Downtown LA, also July 20th! Music featured on this episode: Gary Gritness - The Real Thing (feat. Morris Mobley) Zackey Force Funk - Satis-Fakshun (prod. by Trailer Limon)…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

Guess who didn't make it to record the PADcast again? Shout out to Kevin Hustlehoff! We gave our review of the Summertime In The LBC festival even though none of us actually went. The crew tells some more stories from the old days, living at The Slacker Pad, drinking soda and passing kidney stones. Rev talks about why maybe not every rapper who people scream to "Free!" should necessarily be free. The crew finally has a much-delayed discussion about songs they don't like that are considered to be "classics." Much hip hop blasphemy ensues. We had no idea Rev was such a big KRS-One fan. Who woulda thought? We found this out after he told us about the time he got kicked off stage after freestyling at Project Blowed. XL tells us about all the pro-Trump propaganda he witnessed while on tour driving through the rural Midwest. This episode's a fun one, which is cool because we thought it was trash after we recorded it!…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

It's amazing that it took 19 episodes to have an on-air conversation about our favorite childhood cereals but we finally did just that. Kevin Hustlehoff is back on the PADcast after befriending a crackhead and catching a ride from Matix aka Jonimal. We talked about all the creeps in Long Beach and gave our review of the Drake album. We also talked about the new Skillz album (compilation?) and played metal from R.I.P. (album mixed by our good homie Brian Ellis). Will auto-tune be around forever? The Slacker Pad discusses right before going into a deep dive about Permit Patty, other white people calling the cops on black people doing things that aren't crimes, and gentrification at large. Getting back to the music, the crew reminisces on the audio pain of the Limp Bizkit era. XL complains about Snapchat filters & Rev complains about people going live on Instagram. Bitching about stuff has never sounded so fun! Be sure to listen, this might be our GOAT episode so far! Music featured on this episode: R.I.P. - "Street Reaper" R.I.P. - "Unmarked Grave" Fevah - "West Coast Lovin"…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

We started this one off by vibing to some of the fresh sounds from the new Sven Atterton album...and ROASTING Kevin Hustlehoff for missing yet another episode! A lot of music got covered, including the forthcoming Moniquea release on Omega Supreme Records (shout out Gwizski!). We had to talk about the Nas album again after having some time to really digest it more, and to let Matix get his thoughts in (28:46) before going into the Jay-Z/Beyonce album (36:25). Gears shift abruptly to a discussion on XXXtentacion and things get a little more serious (RIP). The bigger picture at hand - How crazy is it that people feel the need to go on the internet and cheer over someone being murdered? We particularly had to go in on the double standard coming from 'real hip hop heads' on the subject. Naturally the conversation moved towards conspiracy theories - why are people so eager to believe in them? (49:49). XL drops his GOAT list (56:24) which somehow leads into a conversation about LA's most prolific direct-to-consumer artist/CD seller, Won G (57:30). Finally we discussed the new Chromeo album (1:27:48) which got mixed reviews from the crew. Aside from music, we reminisced about chirp phones (22:45) and listened to Rev's theories on why there's heavy traffic in LA (27:04) - Here's a hint: Rev says it's because everyone is on their way to the club. Riiight. What's the proper protocol if your woman is beating you up? How do you defend yourself without crossing the line? (53:30). A short talk about parents brawling at a softball game leads into a deep dive on parenting culture (1:16:50). We tackled the subject as well as 3 guys with no kids possibly can! Music featured on this episode: Sven Atterton - Reunion Moniquea - I Didn't Mean To Turn You On (coming from Omega Supreme Records August 3) Jay-Z - Change Clothes (XL Middleton Remix) XL Middleton - Wintertime In Cali…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

XL & Rev handle this episode as a duo - We had to record on an off night due to last weekend's Modern Funk Fest so Kevin & Jon couldn't make it. We tried to be nice and not roast them for flaking, with mixed results! We started out with a recap of MFF (5:10) at Chinatown's Grand Star Jazz Club where we discussed the peculiar lack of jazz there. XL finally had a Lyft driver ask if he wants to hear his mixtape (11:16), which naturally leads into a fresh round of Uber war stories from Rev. XL & Rev listened to the new Nas RIGHT before recording the podcast so they offer their very fresh takes on the album (26:45). XL drops a stunning revelation about Star Wars (35:27) before launching into a 20-year late discussion about the "Suge shot me" moment on the Makaveli album (39:00). We talked about the Jay-Z/Beyonce project/photo series (?) (40:30) and speculate on it with no real knowledge, because that's how we do! Rev brings up a classic Slacker Pad topic - should the only NBA players to get paid be the ones who win the championship? (45:06) We reminisced on some of west coast rap's weaker moments (56:11) and had a few laughs before pondering a more serious question - what if you could see all the alcohol you've ever consumed in one container? (1:11:35) The World Cup inspires Rev to go into a tirade about soccer and soccer fans (1:14:57). Considering that we were still recovering from Modern Funk Fest when we recorded, this episode is jam packed with jokes and musings on music and life! Music featured on this episode: Throwback Zack - Teezy's Groove III Moniquea - All The Time (Unreleased, dropping June 29!)…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

XL & The Slacker Pad check in on Kevin Hustlehoff after the rough weekend that caused him to miss out on the last episode. Plenty of music & music issues get discussed: Daz's new video dissing Kanye, the evolution of Snoop, did DJ Quik give Jay-Z a dud on The Black Album? Drake taking the "L" from Pusha T, and more. XL plays new music from the homie/world famous popper Kid Boogie/Kay Bee and reflects on going to high school together. What the hell is up with producers calling themselves "Such & Such On The Beat"? Is the combination of rap & rock just something that doesn't work? What was up with the mid-to-late 90's hip hop obsession with cowboys? Life topics that get discussed on this episode: What really constitutes sexual harassment? Is it mean to laugh from a safe distance when you see your ex's new relationships going south? Are vape olympics really a thing? Modern Funk Fest going down Saturday, June 16 at Grand Star in Chinatown. Pull up! Music featured on this episode: Beath - Dreams From Last Night Bus Crates - You Got Me (feat. Laura Benack) Kay Bee & Kzyboost - We Came To Bring The Funk Michele Manzo - Movin' On (feat. Moniquea)…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

Kevin Hustlehoff called out sick again for this episode (nice job Hustling), and the Slacker Pad wasn't having it, in spite of his triple-pronged arsenal of excuses. After going in for a good 15 minutes, it was time to talk music. Yes, even old farts like us have opinions about the Pusha T & Drake beef. We also discussed the Kanye album even though not everybody in the room listened to it. Eh, you can piece together enough info from memes to make educated guesses on any subject these days. We covered a few current events too, such as Roseanne getting canceled and a bizarre story about a dude jacking off on a plane. We'll blame Rev for bringing that one up. A few debates came up during this episode too, and the opinions shared may surprise you. The Chronic or Doggystyle? LA Mexican food or San Diego Mexican food? We played another exclusive, unheard joint from the Zackey Force Funk album. Bodyrock Shotgun dropping July 20 on MoFunk Records! Music featured on this episode: Stimulator Jones - "Water Slide" Koolade - "Reminisce Sunshine" Zackey Force Funk - "Part Time Lover" (prod. by Throwback Zack) EXCLUSIVE UNRELEASED…

The title of this week's episode centers around making fun of people in our 'old fart' age range (mid 30's that is) who sit on social media complaining about new music, with special regard to trap/mumble rap. We cover a lot of other ground too, including a wide range of music, from Pusha T & Black Thought to new joints being teased on IG from Dam Funk, Moniquea, and more. We also played some exclusive music as well, including XL Middleton's song from the forthcoming Modern Funk Fest 7" (don't miss Modern Funk Fest June 16 at Grand Star!) and XL's long-lost collaboration with Jon B. Music featured on this episode: XL Middleton - "In The Middle Of The Night" (to be included on the 2018 Modern Funk Fest 7" vinyl) XL Middleton & Jon B. - "Whatever U Want" (EXCLUSIVE UNRELEASED)…

XL Middleton Presents The PADcast

The crew is in full force this week with the entire Slacker Pad proper - XL Middleton, Rev, Kevin, & Jonimal. Topics discussed include the new DJ Quik joint and a deep dive into his musical evolution (9:26). Does it sound right when legacy artists do the "now" sound in rap? The lady who called the cops on the BBQ in Oakland had to get discussed (20:50), as did the movement to pull certain controversial artists off Spotify (32:37). Rev fills the crew in on the serial date skipper who takes women on dates, orders food and drink then disappears before the bill comes (40:23). A different take on the Childish Gambino video is offered (45:58). While the Pad agrees that the message is great and necessary, are people still basic for being wowed by the visual? This leads into a potentially controversial conversation about white people appointing themselves as 'gatekeepers' of black culture (50:18). XL shares his original arrangement of a track he did with Dogg Master at the end of the podcast. On this special episode of The PADcast, XL Middleton is joined by Rev, on the road for XL's mini tour through central and northern California. Recorded at their hotel in San Jose, XL & Rev detail the weekend turn-up-in-progress and go into life rants on various subjects, including why they dislike being addressed as "big man," why Medieval Times sucks (if you don't live near LA, you've probably got a comparable attraction in your area so you'll be able to relate), and the art of smuggling your own alcohol into the club. A few theoretical scenarios also get discussed, including what would happen if vintage guns became trendy in hip hop culture, and kids developing gambling problems at Chuck E. Cheese's. XL shares another exclusive track, never before heard publicly outside of a 15-second Instagram clip. Music featured on this episode: XL Middleton - "Sessy Kind Of Girl" (Unreleased Exclusive)…

With Kanye's recent comments about "choice," we couldn't help but wonder if this episode's title is a little...basic? But nah, it's deeper than rap.
