TechSurge: Deep Tech VC Podcast

Artificial intelligence is evolving at an unprecedented pace—what does that mean for the future of technology, venture capital, business, and even our understanding of ourselves? Award-winning journalist and writer Anil Ananthaswamy joins us for our latest episode to discuss his latest book Why Machines Learn: The Elegant Math Behind Modern AI . Anil helps us explore the journey and many breakthroughs that have propelled machine learning from simple perceptrons to the sophisticated algorithms shaping today’s AI revolution, powering GPT and other models. The discussion aims to demystify some of the underlying mathematical concepts that power modern machine learning, to help everyone grasp this technology impacting our lives–even if your last math class was in high school. Anil walks us through the power of scaling laws, the shift from training to inference optimization, and the debate among AI’s pioneers about the road to AGI—should we be concerned, or are we still missing key pieces of the puzzle? The conversation also delves into AI’s philosophical implications—could understanding how machines learn help us better understand ourselves? And what challenges remain before AI systems can truly operate with agency? If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform. Today started early and resulted in me being productive in the early hours of the day. I had a fantastic critique in Junior Research. Later I decided it would be best to go tobed early and get up early to write my paper for Art History in the morning instead of the dead of night.

×Procrastinating during finals...
Final for Junior Research
Had a nice day at work, but terrible at doing homework.
Reflecting on what I did today and planning out my week of finals.
Had a fun shoot at Ralph Pucci, but lazy in terms of schooling.
Today was a decent day. I missed the mark on turning in my paper for Art Since the 60s. I woke up early, 5 AM, to start it, but did not utilize the time well and will now be turning in the paper late. Tomorrow morning, Thursday, I will be doing the same thing for my contemporary issues paper and presentation.…

Decent start of the week.
A little bit of a freak out.
Good day in my personal life, bad day in the life of a Pratt Student.
Today we had a 10 Print critique in Digital Monochrome in which I participated a ton.
Today in Contemporary Issues we visted three galleries in Dumbo. In Psychoanalysis we talked about Mary Ainsworth Strange Situations Test.
Today I was sick all day. What started as a sore throat turned into chills by the end of the night. Aside from that today I had Art Since the 60s, a Photo lecture by Lucy Gallun, and the work as a Lab Monitor.
Today I had a great time in Junior Research then took pictures at the School of Art lecture with Lisa Luskavage.
Great first day back at Pratt. Productive day at work and interesting class as always in PIC. I was sleep deprived by the end of the day and was feeling grumpy, but tried to maintain composure.
