ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਨੂੰ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ। ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦਰ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ , ਜਿੱਥੇ-ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਰਹੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਸੀ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੀ। ਕੁਝ ਕੁ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਨਿਘਾਰ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਅਸਫ਼ਲ ਰਹੇ ? ਅਜਿਹੇ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ,ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਡਿਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟ ਡਾ.ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਅਦਬੀ ਮਜਲਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ । ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ,ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।ਵੱਖ -ਵੱਖ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਲਿਖ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਿਤ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਨਿਬੰਧ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਖੋਜ ਪੱਤਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਨਾਮੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਹੁਦੇਦਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੈ।
Punjabi language took centuries to develop. From generation to generation, wherever Punjabi lived, Punjabi remained the medium of communication. For a few years now, there have been signs of the decline of the Punjabi language. Why have we failed to develop it further? Dr. Sarbjit Singh, professor and former chairman, Punjabi Department of Punjab University, Chandigarh, participated in Adbi Majlis to discuss other such topics. Prof. Sarabjit Singh holds an important place in the field of Punjabi language, criticism and research. He has written and edited books on various issues. Published several essays and participated in several national and international seminars and presented research papers. He also holds office and membership of many reputed organizations.
