Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs Week 4 "Avoiding Temptation"
Manage episode 374831753 series 2412302
Pastor Micah finished up our current series this week called Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs! While King Solomon was not perfect (he didn’t even always take his own advice!) he did record an incredible collection of wisdom in the book of Proverbs. This wisdom is timeless; it was relevant thousands of years ago and it is relevant today. The specifics may have changed, but the principles in Proverbs are still solid and sound advice for you and me! This week we focused on what King Solomon taught about how to avoid temptation by looking at a parable he tells in Proverbs 7:7-27.
Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:
- Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.
- Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. (Not necessarily focusing on the morality of right vs wrong)
King Solomon has a lot to say not just about saying no to temptation, but learning how to avoid temptation. Here are a few key takeaways from this week's message on avoiding temptation:
- An early no is easier than a later no!
- A difficult no is better than a difficult consequence!
- Integrity beats regret every time!
Bottom Line: If you know where temptation lives, don’t walk by her house!
