Welcome to Clairstone! In this epsiode. you will learn how to use the English words "journey" and "vacation".
TRANSCRIPT:
Hello everyone, my name is Jasmine, and you are listening to the English ClAIRSTONE Podcast, where you can build the cornerstone of your English vocabulary! For all our new listeners, welcome to the community, and for our regulars, hello again! Before we start, I will remind you that we upload new episodes twice a week and there are transcripts for each podcast episode in English, Arabic, and Spanish at our website projectclair.org, so go check that out if you want to follow along!

Today we will look at the words “journey” and “vacation.”

The word “journey,” spelled J-O-U-R-N-E-Y, is both a noun and a verb. As a noun, the word “journey” means something that involves travel or moving from one place to another. This word can be used about the travel from place to place in both literal and not literal ways. For example, if “My journey from Spain to Boston lasted 8 hours,” then the journey is my passage or trip from Spain to Boston. But, in the sentence, “Their journey of friendship lasted 11 years,” then although the people didn’t go physically from one place to another, there is still a passage of time that makes this a “journey.”

The verb, “to journey,” means to go on a journey, or to travel. An example sentence is “Sophia and her mom journeyed through Europe for 3 months.”

The word “vacation,” spelled V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N, can also be a noun or verb. As a noun, the word “vacation” means a period of time spent away from home or business in order to travel or do some other activity. This period of time also applies to time away from places such as school. For example, “A family vacation to Greece” is a trip to Greece, but a school’s “summer vacation” is just the period of time students and teachers have off (don’t go to school) over the summer. The noun “vacation” can also mean the act of vacating or moving someone from somewhere so that a place is empty.

As a verb, “to vacation,” is to take or spend a vacation or trip. It means to spend time away from home or another place like in the sentence. “Paul vacationed to Hawaii during his free time.”
