In Luke 12:13-21, Jesus addresses the dangers of greed and warns against placing trust in earthly riches. When a man asks Jesus to mediate a family inheritance dispute, Jesus refuses and uses the opportunity to teach about avoiding covetousness. He shares the parable of the rich fool, in which a wealthy man hoards his abundant crops and plans a life of ease, only to die that very night, leaving his wealth behind. Jesus concludes by emphasizing that life does not consist of abundant possessions and that true wealth comes from being rich toward God.
This passage highlights the futility of materialism, the importance of eternal priorities, and the need to trust in God rather than earthly possessions. It encourages readers to seek spiritual riches and a life centred on God's kingdom.
