#10: Ethical Representation and Inclusion of the Romani & Traveller Community in Cinema - Talk with Lisa Smith
Manage episode 428137871 series 3555979
In this episode, I talk with a true pioneer in her field: Lisa Smith founded Patrin Films, the UK's first Romani Traveller-led filmmaking collective, and her debut DRAGON ORCHARD (in development) set out to be the first feature documentary directed by a female Traveller filmmaker. Lisa is the co-curator of The International Festival of Romani Film: AKE DIKHEA? and the co-ordinator of AVAZYA: The European Romani Filmmakers Network. She tells us about the culture, history and politics related to her community, about her projects as well as some positive experiences with influential allies and training programs in the film industry. Also, Lisa is advocating for her community to gain control over their images and narratives in films through collectively creating a new terminology on Romani Cinema and a code of representation.
Recorded live with an audience at the intersectional feminist center Frauenkreise Berlin on May 21st, 2024.
