He was born in Switserland and started riding at the age of 9.
His greatest achievement was in London 2012, where he competed at his third Olympic games. He was the only rider who jumped clear in the two final rounds of the competition and won the individual gold medal. He was the winner of the World Cup Finals several times and the winner of the European Championship in 2023.
