President Xi Jinping today arrived in Bali, Indonesia, for the Group of 20 Summit. Song Wenjing has more.

Ahead of the G20 summit, Xi met his US counterpart Joe Biden in Bali. Xi said China and the United States should use history as a mirror and let it guide the future. He added that as leaders of major countries, they needed to chart the right course and find the right direction forbilateral【双边的】ties and elevate the relationship. Xi said that although the two leaders had spoken to one another in video-conferences, phone calls and letters, none of them substitute face-to-face exchanges. Nearly three years into the COVID-19 pandemic, member nations of the G20 were gathering on the island yesterday. PCR tests and strict pandemic controlprotocols【协议】were in effect.

2.CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON 13 PROJECTS IN YANGTZE DELTA

Construction started today on 13 projects in the Yangtze River Delta Integration Demonstration Zone. They were budgeted at 20.6 billion yuan and will be in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Zhang Hong brings us the details.

In Qingpu District, Shanghai, the third phase of a waterway project started. It includes building new riverfront footpaths,recreational【休闲的】squares and restoring scenery along a 4-kilometer stretch of waterway.

Some of the projects involve infrastructure to better connect Shanghai with Wujiang, Jiangsu Province, and Jiashan, Zhejiang Province. A three-year development plan was created for the YangtzeRiver Delta Integration Demonstration Zone last year. Construction has already started on more than 60% of the 115 projects in the plan.

3.6 KILLED,81 WOUNDED IN ISTANBUL BOMBING

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced yesterday that at least six people were killed, and 81 others were wounded in a bomb attack in Istanbul. The police had detained 22 suspects, including an individual who is suspected of planting the bomb. Stephen Rancourt has more.

The explosion occurred on IstiklalAvenue, a busy pedestrian street, at 4:20 p.m. local time. Local media reported the sound of the blast rippled through the entire historic Beyoğlu district and caused severe panic.A large number of health personnel arrived at the scene to tend to the wounded, and the police are now on high alert. Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said the bombing appeared to be a "terrorist act".

According to local media, a woman had been sitting on a bench for around 40 minutes, she got up and left just before the explosion occurred.

The person who carried it out, the one who placed the bomb, was detained by teams of the Istanbul police. Preliminary investigations point to the PKK/PYD terrorist organization as the group responsible for the attack.

Officials also said the order for the attack was issued in Kobani, a city in northern Syria. 10 prosecutors have been assigned to investigate the bombing. The Chinese Embassy in Turkey yesterday stated it had not received reports of any Chinese nationals who were killed or injured in the blast, and reminded Chinese citizens in Turkey to avoid going out unnecessarily.
