This fascinating conversation with Mike Malterre, the Executive Vice President of Stream2Sea, the manufacturer of the safest mineral sunscreen and body care products on the planet, is a deep dive into the skincare product market. It is no coincidence that Stream2Sea was born from a passion for diving and protecting the oceans by the CEO Autumn Blum.

Mike has a knack for effectively presenting complex information that is often otherwise intentionally mindboggling. The less we know about our skincare products, the easier it is for manufacturers to use dangerous carcinogens and highly toxic components. The cosmetic industry is a behemoth with a great deal to lose from too many educated consumers.

Mike takes us through a laundry list of nasty ingredients that are ubiquitous in skincare products. These toxins not only damage us though our highly absorbent skin, but also wreak havoc on the land, waterways, and oceans. Coral reefs and their inhabitants are literally dying from the toxic runoff that washes from the skin of sunbathers and swimmers. Add to that the millions of pounds of harmful soaps and shampoos that eventually reach the ocean each year, and it is little wonder that our blue planet is suffering.

Today’s skincare products include highly toxic hand sanitizers that are literally being forced on the global population, most especially on our children. We talk at length about the human effects of our skincare products, including widespread fertility issues, surging rates of cancer, and rising levels virtually all autoimmune diseases. We also discuss the unscrupulous censorship that prevents this type of essential information from reaching the masses, and the pervasive use of marketing gimmicks – even by the companies you might think you can trust – that are designed to intentionally deceive.

Mike, Autumn, and the team at Stream2Sea are tireless warriors for a healthy planet and healthy people. Their company is one that is truly making the world a better place, and it is through our voice and choice as consumers that we can show our support.
