In this episode, we meet Kirsten Kline, the 2021 World Indoor Rowing champion and a Concept 2 World Record Holder. Kline is a 33-year old Alabama native who currently resides in Houston, TX where she works in the O&G industry. She is also a recovering alcoholic, which she believes is a very relevant part of her rowing journey; her battle with addiction brought her to the rowing world.
The Crossfit-erg gatewayKline was introduced to indoor rowing through the fitness program Crossfit in 2017 and quickly developed a love for it, using indoor rowing as an outlet during her early stages of sobriety. After she "stumbled into" (her words) a few Concept2 world records, she decided to join a rowing club in late 2019 and quickly developed a passion for being on the water.
Challenges of water rowingAfter winning the 2021 World Indoor Rowing Championships, Kline decided to shift her competitive focus from indoor rowing to rowing on the water. Kline is currently working intensively with a coach to improve her sculling skills. She plans to one day be competitive on the water and vows not let her age, height or limited experience deter her.
