The vets are back and this time, they are joined by Dr. Steven Kubiski. Today, they’re discussing why not every vet does what the general public thinks they do. The vets discuss the many roles of vets outside of neutering and spaying cats and dogs. Specifically, they chat with Dr. Steven about his role as an anatomic pathologist.

Dr. Steven is a senior scientist at the San Diego zoo wildlife alliance. He uses his Ph.D. in comparative pathology in his work with a group called disease investigation. In this episode, the vets ask Dr. Steven about his work in disease surveillance and diagnostic support with the zoo. They also chat about the differences between a clinical pathologist and an anatomic pathologist. Dr. Steven shares his journey through vet school, specifically how he got more involved with pathology and infectious disease studies.

They chat about the different animals that Dr. Steven works with, the logistics of his work such as how he gets biological samples, as well as the process of working with government officials who are involved with wildlife management. Dr. Steven also imparts his advice for veterinary students who are interested in pathology as well as his tips for private practice vets who want to explore a pathology residency.
