In this episode Denise talks to her nephew Toby Murray, an entrepreneur in Detroit. As a teen he knew he wanted to be a concert promoter and started taking steps in that direction. After his first show was a complete flop, it took him several years to get the courage to try again, and this time people were lining up around the block to get in. Toby candidly shares his journey to sobriety and the importance of self-honesty. His life now is marked by many joyous new beginnings—husband, father, entrepreneur—but one thing’s stayed the same, his passion for music.

Toby Murray, concert promoter and owner of Big Pink Media, created the alias Chester Pink in 2015 which he uses on all social media platforms and on his podcast, “Big Pink Loves You.” His most recent project is renovating a warehouse in the Rivertown District of Detroit, which will be the fulltime home to his creative endeavors. Toby is the former staff photographer and videographer for the Detroit Redwings and a graduate of DePaul University. He lives in the Detroit area with his wife and two daughters.
Denise Ilitch, owner of Ilitch Family Companies and President of Ilitch Enterprises, has been a part of Detroit’s business and philanthropic community for over 40 years. As a wife, mother, lawyer, entrepreneur, devoted community servant and tireless advocate for women and children, she learned early, from her father, that everyone is worthy of contributing to the world. Her passion for affordable, accessible, quality education stems from her own experience as a first-generation student, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, where she currently serves on the Board of Regents.
