In this series of Bible talks, Jesus draws a profound parallel between the ancient narrative of Noah’s Ark (Genesis 6-9) and the unfolding story of Bible prophecy (Matthew 24:37-38). This Bible series explores Jesus’ perspective when he uttered the phrase “As in the days of Noah” (Matt 24:37). He begins by linking the cataclysmic flood of Noah’s time to historical events, such as the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by Rome in AD 70, as described in Daniel 9:26. This catastrophic event, symbolised as a flood, has since been mirrored in the dispersion of Israel among the nations, referred to by Jesus as the “sea of nations” (Luke 21:25). Over the past two millennia, Israel has endured being “trodden down” by Gentile powers, while a figure of covenant rest—symbolising salvation—offers humanity a way of deliverance through baptism, prefigured by Noah’s ark (1 Peter 3:20-21).

Jesus himself embodies this ark of refuge, where those who enter find sanctuary from the turbulent waters of worldly existence. Inside this spiritual sanctuary, believers undergo a transformative process akin to Noah’s animals entering the ark: transformed from untamed creatures into new beings (2 Corinthians 5:17). As they wait within, symbolically anticipating the calming and abating of the sea of nations and the return of the dove of Israel to its promised land (Isaiah 60:8), they look forward to the moment when the ark’s doors will open.

Upon emergence, they are glorified as immortal beings, symbolised by the rainbow—a divine sign of God’s covenant and promise of eternal protection (Genesis 9:9). This theme of covenant and renewal is further elaborated in Ezekiel’s visions and the apocalyptic imagery of Revelation, where the glory of God and the eternal covenant find their ultimate fulfillment (Ezekiel 1, Revelation 4, Revelation 10). Through these discussions, participants are invited to delve deeper into the rich symbolism and prophetic significance of Noah’s ark, discovering profound insights into God’s enduring covenant, redemption through Christ, and the ultimate restoration of all things.
