Examining FOUR Popular Arguments for Infant Baptism (Ep 172)
Manage episode 414560875 series 2814819
Why is infant baptism a key part of some churches but not others? In this video we look at four arguments for infant baptism put forward by those who hold to covenant theology. These reasons are portrayed in an article written by Zachary Garris: (1) The children of believers were members of the Abrahamic covenant; (2) The new covenant is a renewal of the Abrahamic covenant; (3) Baptism replaced circumcision as the sign of the covenant; and (4) Children born to Christian parents are members of the new covenant. Reformed theologians often will use a form of these arguments in arguing for infant baptism so we evaluate their strength. 00:00 Introduction 05:42 Begin Review of Article by Zachary Garris 16:02 Children of Believers were Members of the Abrahamic Covenant 24:18 The New Covenant is a Renewal of the Abrahamic Covenant 44:00 Baptism Replaced Circumcision as the Sign of the Covenant 01:00:16 Children born to Christian Parents are Members of the New Covenant 01:11:20 Conclusion Article by Zachary Garris reviewed in the video: https://knowingscripture.com/articles/why-we-should-baptize-babies-the-case-for-covenantal-infant-baptism Waymeyer Article referenced: https://tms.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/TMSJ-Volume-29-Number-2.pdf Gavin Ortlund article referenced: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/themelios/article/why-not-grandchildren-an-argument-against-reformed-paedobaptism/ Link to Peter's book, The Baptism Debate: Understanding and Evaluating Reformed Infant Baptism
