Drake was one of the artists shortlisted for the 2015 Polaris Prize.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Polaris Prize, Canadian music’s most interesting prize, where music writers vote on the year’s top Canadian album, then are left to scrap over which one is truly the best. Michael Barclay, a Polaris Prize juror, joined Adrian Lee and Emma Teitel of Maclean’s pop-culture podcast, The Thrill, to discuss some of the surprises, long shots and disappointments from the shortlist. Alvvays – Alvvays
BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Sour Soul
Braids – Deep In The Iris
Caribou – Our Love
Jennifer Castle – Pink City
Drake – If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late
Tobias Jesso Jr. – Goon
The New Pornographers – Brill Bruisers
Buffy Sainte-Marie – Power In The Blood

Here are his thoughts on the longlist, and make sure to follow Michael’s continued analysis of the Polaris Prize as the gala date draws nearer on Sept. 21.
This is just a sneak peek of one of the segments of the full episode of The Thrill, Maclean’s pop-culture podcast, out on Friday, July 17. That episode features insider accounts of Dave Chappelle from the organizers of Just for Laughs in Montreal, the city that helped give him his first shot and helped begin his comeback tour, as well as a debate over the merits of the Minions movie.
