Welcome to Tigers on Tap Episode 9!

TJ and Trey are here to review the Tigers' dominant win over Navy in Week 2 and preview the home opener against Arkansas State this weekend.

In the first segment, TJ and Trey go through the "Good, Bad, and Beautiful" from the 37-13 win over Navy in Week 2. The good for both guys were the Tiger receivers. They thought the receivers made a huge comeback from a tough week one loss to Mississippi State. Gabe Rogers and Javon Ivory caught 12 balls for 184 yards combined. The main statistic that impressed TJ and Trey was the lack of dropped balls from the receivers. They also highlighted the defense, in particular, their takeaways. Last year the Tigers were -4 overall in takeaways, but in two games this year, the Tigers have 5 takeaways and only 1 turnover.

The bad for both guys is third down conversions on defense. The Tigers are allowing opponents to gain first down yardage on third downs 60% of the time, which puts them second to last in the AAC. Trey does not like the distance in which Tiger opponents are getting for their first down. He sees that opponents getting 8+ yards on third downs could possibly be a scheme issue, but they are hoping to see the Tigers change that in Week 3 against Arkansas State. Another issue that TJ brings up is the blocking from the tight ends. The two main tight ends, Caden Prieskorn and Anthony Landphere, have shown that blocking is not one of their strong suits.

The beautiful from the Navy game is Seth Henigan. Both guys are incredibly impressed with Seth's ability to throw the ball, but also to lead the team. Seth went 24-34 for 415 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Navy game.

In the second segment, the guys move to previewing the Arkansas State game.

Both guys are surprised by the line being -14.5 going the Tigers way. TJ believes that the line is high, but believe the Tigers will win. TJ and Trey break down the most consequential matchups in the game. They highlight the Tigers' defensive line versus Arkansas State's offensive line. This will be the first game that the Tigers are not playing against an offense that is specialized in either running or passing. Arkansas State follows most trends in football where they try to have a balanced run and passing attack. They believe this game will be a clear example of where the Tigers stand under Matt Barnes and his new schemes.

Champ Fleming is a new Arkansas State wide receiver who has proven to be a consistent threat during the first two weeks. If the Tigers can contain him, both guys believe the Tigers will have an easy opportunity to slow down Arkansas State.

To end the show, Trey and TJ make predictions on the game. TJ has the Gabe Rogers scoring the first touchdown for the Tigers, Eddie Lewis and Tyler Murray will win game balls, and the Tigers will win 38-28. Trey's predictions are Javon Ivory will score the first touchdown, Javon Ivory and Geoff Cantin-Arku will win game balls, and the Tigers win 41-22.
