上次节目梅莉和翩翩盘点了一下英国女王的葬礼5大历史性时刻，今天的节目里，Selah和翩翩会和大家聊一聊西方人的葬礼文化。

1. 西方葬礼流程

你可以选择亲人遗体的处理方式，是be buried（土葬），cremated（火化）还是used for science or be an organ donor（用于科学研究或成为器官捐赠者）。

l 亲人去世后，家人会publish an obituary on social media or in the newspaper（在报纸或者社交媒体上发讣告），来宣布死亡消息，并且会share the date and time of the funeral（分享葬礼举行的日期和时间）。

l 然后，他们会跟funeral home（殡仪馆）联系，准备葬礼的事宜。

要在殡仪馆买the casket or urn（棺材或者骨灰盒）。

A funeral professional will prepare the body here for the funeral. 殡仪馆里有专业的丧葬人员来打理遗体。

遗体告别都是会在funeral home进行。The body will be displayed at the funeral home for private visitations. 遗体将被放在殡仪馆里，以便进行私人的遗容瞻仰。

这种private visitations通常会在葬礼前的一两个晚上进行，can be open or closed casket（可以打开或者关上棺材），allowing family to see their loved one a last time（让家人看他们爱的人最后一眼）。

l 之后就是要举行memorial service（追悼会）。

通常，在追悼会上，会有songs, readings from texts or poetry（文字或诗歌朗读）, a sermon from a pastor or priest（牧师的布道）, and eulogies made by those close to the deceased（以及与死者亲近的人发表的悼词）。

悼词也会gives a positive message about the deceased（传达出积极的信息），并可能会list accomplishments and attributes（列出死者的成就和品质）。

每一个人都会去the graveside（墓地）或者是a place where the ashes will be scattered（一个会撒骨灰的地方），来put the body in its final resting place（把死者的遗体放到安息之所）。

在这之后，people may gather to enjoy food（人们可能会聚在一起享受食物），并且会spend time together remembering that person’s life（一起回忆逝者的一生）。

这就是西方人从去世到入土为安的整个流程。

2. 西方葬礼3个特别的习俗

(1) You must wear black to a funeral. 必须要穿黑色的衣服。

(2) The person’s own wishes must be taken into consideration.葬礼要按照去世者的心愿来办。

比如说：

² 死者的faith, religious beliefs（个人信仰，宗教信仰）应该被尊重；

² 准备死者的favorite foods；

² Who will give a eulogy, who is invited选择谁来做追悼词，葬礼上谁可以被邀请

² What to do with their body 死者的身体应该怎么处理，是土葬、火葬、还是遗体、器官捐献

² Burial spot, tomb stone 埋葬点选址、墓碑的刻字

(3) There are photos that are displayed around the service that show the person throughout their life. 在追悼会四周会陈列死者生前的照片，展示死者的一生。有时也会有 a photo presentation or slide show going on during the service.（照片集播放或幻灯片放映。）

3. 关于西方葬礼的其他问题：

① 守灵守几天？

A funeral typically happens within 10 days or two weeks of the person dying.葬礼通常会在死者死亡后的10天或两周内举行。

There is not any set requirement. 这个没有任何固定的要求。

这要看the circumstances and the family’s ability to plan quickly（家庭准备葬礼的情况和速度），或者是service availability（殡仪馆服务的可用性）。

② 在中国葬礼上哭是必须的，那么西方举行葬礼的时候，亲友要哭吗？要哭出声吗？

It is not expected that you cry or show strong emotions.没有人会对你哭不哭或者是否表达出强烈的情感怀有期望。But you are also not weird if you do. 但是如果你哭的话，也不会有人觉得怪，often it is normal for family members to cry（家庭成员哭是很常见的），但是not loud or publicly（不要太大声，也不要在大庭广众之下这样）。

③ 葬礼上要下跪吗？

You do not need to kneel or bow. 不会下跪，也不会鞠躬。

人们只是gather around the grave（聚集在墓地周围）， and pay their respects by praying or leaving a personal touch near the grave（通过祈祷或在坟墓附近留下一个触摸来表示敬意）。

④ 穿着有什么需要注意的？

You must wear only black to a funeral. 只可以穿黑色的衣服。

Wearing white is extremely bad luck. 葬礼上穿白色衣服寓意极不好的运气。

You just must make sure you are dressing modestly（务必要穿着低调），and not too flashy to draw attention to yourself（而且不要太浮华来吸引别人的注意）.

⑤ 葬礼会放音乐吗？

会放音乐。It is often up to the persons’ wishes , what songs they prefer and their faith. 要看逝者生前的喜好和愿望，以及宗教信仰。

Often you will play slow, soft, meaningful music. 通常会放舒缓、有意义的音乐。

If they are religious, they you will often play a song from that faith.如果是有宗教信仰的，他们会放基于这个信仰的音乐。

如果追悼会是在教堂举行的话， often a priest or pastor will lead the people in singing hymns（通常牧师会带领人们唱赞美诗），也就是traditional, slower Christian songs（传统的，较慢的基督教歌曲）。

如果逝者想要自己的葬礼to be more upbeat（更加乐观），他们可能会放louder, happier music。但这要看if this was their specific wish（这是不是逝者的具体愿望），或者是不是the family chooses their favorite song（家人选的他们生前最爱的歌曲）。

⑥ 宾客来吊唁时要带什么？

为了表达他们的condolences（哀悼），宾客来的时候，会带cards, flowers, stuffed animals, or sentimental gifts（有情感价值的礼物）。

There are very few things that are true across all of the US, since they are so diverse.因为美国文化的多样性，几乎没有什么事情是绝对的、统一的。

Funerals very much depend on the persons’ wishes, religion and cultural background. 葬礼在很大程度上取决于人们的意愿、宗教和文化背景。
