The year is 1995. Kurt Cobain blew his head off last year, or someone blew his head off, at the very least. Singles from Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, The Offsprings’ Smash, and Radiohead’s The Bends are lighting up the radio. And Wonderwall, don’t forget Wonderwall. Secretly, and shamefully, you regularly check VH1 to see if the video for Collective Soul’s song, “December” is on. No one must ever know about this 🎶
Then, here comes Natasha Henstridge as a predatory alien searching for the perfect mate to begin populating her species on Earth🤰
Forest Whitaker plays a man with clairvoyant abilities, which in this film apparently means he is gifted with the ability to point out obvious, readily observable things. Michael Madsen wears sunglasses the whole time and doesn’t know how to hold a gun. Then, there’s Oscar-winner, Sir Ben fucking Kingsley approaching the material like it’s Shakespeare.

×Well well well, here we go again. This episode we review Art the Clown's third outing, and this one is set during Christmas! Yes dorks, we know technically it's Art's 4th cinematic appearance if you count All Hallows' Eve. Get ready for more of the sophisticated, smartly written, unbearable suspense which has made this franchise famous! SIKE But seriously get ready for a straight ahead slasher with no added filler! Oh wait, never mind this one is 125 minutes, maybe a third of which is what you watch a movie like this for. For real though, get ready for a thoughtful and well-acted character study with a lot on its mind that totally justifies its runtime...okay we'll stop. "Jingle bells, jingle bells. This place fuckin' smells.." (actual dialogue from the movie) It's The Who Goes There Podcast Episode 428! Join our Patreon to support the show and help us keep doing it! We're back! Just in time to help you cope with Trump 2.0 This episode we review writer/director Parker Finn's follow up to his 2022 debut, SMILE 2. Skye Riley: Well, have you gone to the police? Morris: And say what? My brother's suicide was actually caused by some cosmic evil being that no one else can see? The police can't stop this thing anyway. Skye: So I'm just supposed to wait until this thing kills me? Morris: No, I want you to help me destroy it. Skye: How? Morris: From what I can tell, the chain stops when an infected host dies in some other way outside of the being's control. My guess is that, just like other parasites, without a living host it has no way to survive. It's ceases to exist. Skye: So it only stops if--if I die before it kills me? Morris: Exactly. We need to kill you first. Skye: What?! It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode #427! Join our Patreon to support the show and help us keep doing it! This episode we get weird, like that's anything new, with the turn of the century Czechoslovakian dark comedy surrealist horror of LITTLE OTIK (aka Greedy Guts). Oh you've never heard of it? Good gooooooooood. Neither had we to be honest. Credit goes to the current lord of our Patreon, King Hans! He always gives us the wildest recommendations, and we love him for it, as we do all our supporters and Patreon members. "Show me your Otik. That's his name, isn't it? Don't worry, I won't eat him. He's our child and we have to stick by him through thick and thin." It's The Who Goes There Podcast Episode 426! Join our Patreon to support the show and help us keep doing it! French Writer/Director Coralie Fargeat made her feature film debut with 2017's REVENGE, a visceral, vibrant, and often lyrical rape/revenge thriller. The film leaned hard into tropes usually reserved for more action oriented films featuring an initially victimized protagonist transforming into a lethal retributive anti-hero. Fargeat herself said she was directly influenced by films like Mad Max, Rambo, and Kill Bill. Revenge was a favorite of ours on the show in it's year of release, and one of the more notable genre feature film debuts in a decade full of them. She was also praised as one of the more exciting voices in contemporary feminist cinema, along with her contemporary Julia Ducournau (Raw, Titane), also hailing from France, as they both brought a woman's perspective and a contemporary lens to Cronenbergian body horror and psychosexual tension. Needless to say, we were optimistic and curious about what Fargeat would do next. "One single injection unlocks your DNA, starting a new cellular division, that will release another version of yourself. This is THE SUBSTANCE. Everything comes from you. Everything is you. This is simply a better version of yourself. You just have to share. One week for one and one week for the other. A perfect balance of seven days each. The one and only thing not to forget: YOU. ARE. ONE. You can't escape from yourself." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 425! Join our Patreon if you enjoy and want to support the show! There are surprises every year in the world of cinema, you never quite know what's going to pan out and end up delivering the goods. A lot of things that sound good on paper end up being poor in execution, and vice versa. There's always the approach of relying on a filmmakers track record and having a reasonable amount of confidence in their next project, but even then there are disappointments and (usually) inevitable decline. There's the "brand loyalty" idea, where you stick with a franchise even though it starts SUCKING ASS, and in recent years no shortage of legacy sequels. Every year also brings it's share of unintentionally hilarious cinematic disasters. This year alone has brought us Megacockulus, Madame Web, Joker: Folie a Deux, Borderlands, Argylle, Tarot, Rebel Moon- Part Two, Imaginary, Night Swim, and The Exorcism, among others (add Kraven The Hunter to that list). Then, there's these films you barely hear shit about (or nothing about) until their release is imminent which pull a complete sneak attack and surprise the fuck out of you. The time has come. The three of us are all big fans of the Alien franchise and director/writer Fede Alvarez has arrived with buddy and co-writer Rodo Sayagues to give their take. As the first film in the long running Alien series to be produced by 20th Century Studios following it's acquisition by Disney, Alien: Romulus successfully resuscitated the franchise, grossing over $350 million worldwide. But at what cost? Will the film's gorgeous production design, modern horror tropes, and nostalgic nods to the greatest hits of the franchise be enough? Or is what some identify as an over-reliance on fan service, imitation, incoherent plotting, and contrivances, ultimately a deal breaker? What did we think? You're about to find out. "Z-01 contains the genome responsible for the Xeno's ability to accelerate and slow down its metabolism at will. Its symbiotic capableness easily rewrites the host's DNA through its blood. This is a much needed and well overdue upgrade for humanity. We simply cannot wait for evolution anymore." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 423! Join Patreon if you enjoy the show! It's a trap! No really, it is. The one, the only, M. Night Shamalamalama returns with this high concept thriller starring Josh Hartnett as a serial killer taking his daughter to see a pop star portrayed by the writer/director's daughter. Review begins right around 45:25. We love you. Another new ep in a few days, next up is Alien: Romulus. "You know the Butcher? That freakin' nutjob that goes around just chopping people up? Well, the feds or whatever heard that he's gonna be here today, so they set up a trap for him. This whole concert? It's a trap. They're watching all the exits, checking everyone that leaves. There's no way to get out of here. It's kinda dope, right?" Join Patreon if you enjoy the show! Welcome back! The time has come for us to discuss the much anticipated serial killer flick, LONGLEGS . Preceded by months of cryptic and highly effective viral marketing, it's a big swing from indie film distributor NEON and boasts a strong genre pedigree in writer/director Osgood Perkins, and stars Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe. What did we think? Listen and find out. Also a bunch of other stuff discussed in the first half as usual. Review starts at 45:25 "The seventh she to be given the same choice they've all been given. Crimson, or clover. Accept the gift and destroy, destroy yourself and yourselves. Or keep it. And bow down. Bow all the way down. And get right down to the dirty, dirty work. Work that gets dirty as it cleans. Like a mop. Like a rag." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 421! Join our Patreon if you enjoy the show! For this ep, we have a double feature review of A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE and MAXXXINE. Two third-parters in two trilogies, but only one of the two is a prequel, whereas in the other trilogy the prequel was the first sequel. A hunk of excellent content. Figure that shit out. "Do you want a bit of free advice? Look around you. You've made it to the belly of the beast, congratulations, very few come this far. To stay here, you must make it your obsession. Eliminate all other distractions, because if you take your eye off that prize for even a moment, the beast will spit you right back out where you came from." Greetings! This ep we discuss a little film called THE COFFEE TABLE, a 2022 Spanish import which just made it's way stateside this year. A few of you have seen it and have opinions about it, but what did the three of us think? You're about to find out. Review begins right around the 37:00 minute mark. Other recent watches, rabbit holes, hijinks, and non sequiturs ensue before that. "It'll be your favorite table to have a coffee with your loved ones, and I guarantee that this table, due to its design and standard, will change your life for the better. It will fill your home with happiness." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 419! Join our Patreon if you enjoy the show! We have missed you. Got a bunch coming your way in the next couple weeks. This episode we get into the buzzy indie "ambient slasher", In A Violent Nature. The movie has provoked a lot of discussion and mixed reactions within the horror community, but what did we think? "They never found his body, but they say his spirit lives in the forest. This forest. A maniac, a thing no longer human. Every year he kills. Right now he's out there. Watching. Waiting. So don't look; he'll see you. Don't breathe; he'll hear you. Don't move; you're dead!" It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 418! Join our Patreon if you enjoy the show! It's time we here at WGT tackled another King Pick. This time Lord Hans has decreed we watch and discuss the 2014 horror/comedy Giallo spoof, THE EDITOR. The film is courtesy of those wacky and wild haomies from the North (meaning Canada), Astron-6. "Don't even try to move my clear, you're completely paralyzed. You might remember my friend, the Brazilian Wandering spider. He's very aggressive, highly poisonous. Not even your handsome boyfriend, Arturo, can save you now." This week WGT revisits 1991's THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. For our much appreciated Patreon subscribers, its a double dose of Wes Craven as they also get an exclusive episode of the bonkers 1989 slasher, SHOCKER. You can become a WGT Patreon member at www.patreon.com/whogoestherepodcast , or click the hyperlink further down the page. The People Under the Stairs was previously discussed in the show's first year by Jorge and former cohosts/co-founders Matt and Chris, wayyyyyy back in 2014. This marks the first time WGT has revisited the same film in it's 10 year history. This is also Jacob's first watch of the film, which is insane. "Every generation more insane than the one before it. They got their fingers into real estate, started making a lot of money taking over people's homes. The more money they got, the greedier they got. The greedier they got, the crazier they got. All sorts of rumors about what's going on in that place. Never proved it because the police never took it serious. But believe me, when I was a kid, none of us ever walked past that house." Look, like any year, 2024 has already had its fair share of traaaaash horror genre offerings. Night Swim and Imaginary immediately come to mind. No reason to bury the lead here, TAROT is another one. So why review it at all then you might ask? Because it's fun goddamnit. We're doing the work so you don't have to. "I read your cards. It's over. In readings, Death can mean the end of something or the start of something new. But in your case, it just means death." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 115! How ya been? We're back with a review of another 2024 horror entry, INFESTED. Aka 'Vermines' in it's native France. People are so repelled by spiders they've got their own sub-genre: 1990's Arachnophobia (see episode 219 of WGT for our review), 2002's Eight Legged Freaks, 1977's Kingdom of the Spiders (starring motherfucking William Shatner), 1958's Earth vs. the Spider (an MST3K classic), 2024's Madame Webb (truly horrifying), and many more. So how does this one stack up against the rest? Listen and find out. INFESTED is currently available to stream on Shudder. Incidentally, it's the debut feature of director Sebastien Vanicek, reportedly tapped to helm the next film in the Evil Dead franchise. "The Spider will eat you alive! Bullets...won't kill it! Flames...can't burn it! Nothing...can stop it! 50 tons of creeping black horror! It Must Eat You to Live!" It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 414! Join our Patreon if you enjoy the show!
