The Heisman Trophy race, which was basically a two-man event by mid-October, is officially over, and we have a winner! Congrats to Colorado DB/WR/All-Everything Travis Hunter, who edged out Boise State's Ashton Jeanty in the closest race since 2009. In Landover, MD, Navy beat the odds to upset Army, who came into the game with just one loss, a sizable oneto CFP participant ND (who also trounced Navy by a similar margin), with 200-yard rushing performance from their QB. But Army almost had a bigger problem, as their scheduled bowl opponent, Marshall, opted out of the Independence Bowl. Yes, we WILL be touching on that. Plus, we have had two bowl games take place, as well. The intial round of games under the new 12-team CFP format crank up next weekend, with early-round games taking place on college campuses, similar to how it's done throughout the rest of college football. And figuring out tie-breakers for conference championship games is very difficult, mainly because many teams don't play each other in-season due to 14-, 16-, 18-team conferences, the move away from divisions, etc. I might have a solution!
