CyberShortwave January 23, 2000 As I have mentioned in the past, sometimes we go way, way back into our archives to allow listeners into a window of how our podcast began. This is an example of that. This show is from January 23, 2000. Dave begins by complaining about connecting to the internet (this was in the days of dial-up connections) Our first musical selection is a Harry Belafonte tune. Dave speaks about other podcasters that he follows. Followed by "The Gypsy Cried" which is a song written by Twyla Herbert & Lou Christie, using his actual name Lugee Sacco, which was released by Lou Christie as a single in 1962. Dave calls “Big Steve Cole” live on Steve's shortwave radio program on WBCQ. "You're Sixteen" is a song written by the Sherman Brothers (Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman). It was first performed by American rockabilly singer Johnny Burnette. We hear it now. Dave speaks of the upcoming winter SWL fest in Kulpsville, Pa. Later Dave talks of a “NEW” web site called Ebay.com. Dave uses the segment to include some country music into the program. "The Auctioneer" (also known as "The Auctioneer's Song") is a 1956 country song by Leroy Van Dyke. It was co-written with Buddy Black. "That Don't Impress Me Much" is a song co-written and recorded by Canadian singer Shania Twain. It was released in December 1998 as the sixth country single, and seventh single overall, from her third studio album, Come On Over (1997). It was third to pop and fourth to international markets. I'm Moving On by Hank Snow is next. There's 30 more minutes to go! Special Note: Most of the E-Mail, chat room, and web sites mentioned no longer exist. Your best bet to keep in contact with Pioneers Of Country is on Pod-O-Matic or on our Facebook Page. You can now follow Pioneers of Country on Spotify!

×Golden Age OTR March 12, 2006 This was our second to last broadcast before we decided to retire from regular internet broadcasts in the spring of 2006. Dave explained that this broadcast is dedicated to his favorite music, Dave's Fav's! We begin with The Andrews Sisters - Rum & Coca Cola. Next is one of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Carl Smith and “Back Up Buddy” (even back then, we always found a place for Real Country Music). There's plenty of Country Music to come during the remainder of the broadcast, so stay tuned. Judy Garland - Somewhere Over the Rainbow is next. There was an ongoing skit during the last few weeks before Dave retired. It was called “Kid Kirby Rides Again” (Taken from an old time radio drama, The Lone Ranger). So today Dave plays outtakes and deleted segments prior to our last broadcast in two weeks. Song of The Sewer, Lyrics and music by Art Carney is next. (Up A) Lazy River Lyrics by The Mills Brothers from the “The Star Dust Man” album is next. Dave gives a rundown of his old time radio programming during the week on Live365. That's the first 30 minutes, there's 90 more minutes of fun and frivolity to follow. They were forgotten by The Country Music Industry, Country Radio, and even The Grand Ole Opry – Pioneers of Country proudly remember those artists, and the music they made popular. Special Note: Most of the E-Mail, chat room, and web sites mentioned no longer exist. Your best bet to keep in contact with Pioneers Of Country is on Pod-O-Matic or on our Facebook Page. Pioneers of Country February 19, 2012 We begin with Hank Williams Sr. Next is Bill Carlisle - No Help Wanted. Next is Connie Francis - Everybody's Somebody's Fool. Some country music is next with Del Reeves - Girl On The Billboard. Dave mentions a listener from Switzerland – Heinz. He speaks about his family and listening to Pioneers of Country. A true pioneer is next, Ray Price - Crazy Arms. Dave mentions Glen Campbell and his battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He then plays “Gentle on My Mind”. Jimmy Buffett and "Margaritaville" is next. Then “Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian” by John Prine. Dave talks about his bout with laryngitis this past week. Kenny Rogers – Lucille is next. Dave reads an e-mail from Daphne from Halifax, who would like to hear a song from Jimmy Dean (P.T. 109) or Stomp Those Grapes (Mel Tillis). Dave speaks about watching The Jimmy Deann Show when he was a young lad. Dave plays both the requested songs. That's the first 48 minutes – there's 67 more minutes of great country music. Special Note: Most of the E-Mail, chat room, and web sites mentioned no longer exist. Your best bet to keep in contact with Pioneers Of Country is on Pod-O-Matic or on our Facebook Page. Golden Age OTR February 26, 2006 This was during our previous format called Golden Age OTR - Music from the Golden Age of Radio, but we made sure to include country music. It only took 16 minutes to get a Johnny Cash song on. This broadcast was also one of the last few shows just before we retired from full time broadcasting. We later returned as a part time fill-in broadcaster. Dave remembers famous people who were born on February 26th through the years, including one of our regular listener Mike Wagner. Dave mentions the passing of Don Knotts and does a mini tribute to Don Knotts AKA: Barney Fife. Dave explains his decision to retire from internet broadcasting, but alludes to returning at some point in the future. Dave speaks of Jack Paar and plays a clip of an interview with Jack in the 1980's. Dave plays a tune by Moon Mullican - Aubrey Wilson Mullican (March 29, 1909 – January 1, 1967), known professionally as Moon Mullican and nicknamed "King of the Hillbilly Piano Players", was an American country and western singer, songwriter, and pianist. He was associated with the hillbilly boogie style which influenced rockabilly. Jerry Lee Lewis cited him as a major influence on his own singing and piano playing. Mullican once stated, "We gotta play music that'll make them goddamn beer bottles bounce on the table" A mention of the passing of Darren McGavin (May 7, 1922 – February 25, 2006). Kid Kirby Rides Again Part Two. This was Dave's way of rebelling against the discrimination of small broadcasters like Golden Age OTR. Dave plays censored clips from the golden age of radio. They would play today without even a thought. Of course we have got to squeeze in a Polka, or two before we go. Golden Age OTR February 12, 2006 Every now and then, we dig deep into our archives of podcasts before we were fully into our country music format. This is to show our listeners how far we go back. Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney start off this big broadcast from the Golden Age of Radio. Dave states that “Kid Kirby” will be here in a ½ hour to fix this internet confusion regarding royalties. Doris Day sings Cheek to Cheek! Joseph! Joseph! by The Andrews Sisters is next. Grandpa Jones is next Standing in the depot. Dave salutes Vin Cortina KR2F by playing a Pat Cooper standard! There's much more – Keep listening. Special Note: Most of the E-Mail, chat room, and web sites mentioned no longer exist. The Merle Haggard Story (Pt 13) Pioneers of Country welcomes you to “The Merle Haggard Story” - a syndicated program originally broadcast in early 1985, including many interviews. PLAYLIST: Big City Are the Good Times Really Over Merle Haggard passed away on April 6, 2016. Not long after Live 365 went out of business, so we never got to do a proper tribute broadcast. That is until now. During the COVID Pandemic of 2020 and 2021, I got the chance to travel to a place close to home – my attic! Up there I found a treasure trove of recordings that I had forgotten about. Among them was this several part syndicated broadcast titled “The Merle Haggard Story”. I thought it would be a great tribute to “The Hag” if we rebroadcast this part of Merle's beginnings, and continuing to his mid career popularity.…
The History of Country Music (Pt 13) Porter Wagoner Hank Williams Jr. Johnny Horton
Pioneers of Country February 1, 2014 A Tribute to Ray Price. Pioneers of Country remembers "The Cherokee Cowboy", Ray Price who passed away on December 16th, 2013. Noble Ray Price (January 12, 1926 – December 16, 2013) was an American country music singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His wide-ranging baritone has often been praised as among the best male voices of country music. Some of his well-known recordings include "Release Me", "Crazy Arms", "Heartaches by the Number", "For the Good Times", "Night Life", and "You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me". He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996 and—even into his late 80s—continued to record and tour. Special Note: Most of the E-Mail, chat room, and web sites mentioned no longer exist. Pioneers of Country January 31, 2015 Dave highlights Jim Ed Brown's new album, “In Style again”. We begin the show with a true Pioneer of Country Music, Buck Owens. After mentioning the expected snowstorm in the Northern Midwest, Dave plays Is Anybody Going to San Antone by Charley Pride. A couple of cuts from Jim Ed Brown's new album. Then Dave reminisces on his trip to Nashville several years ago. Next is a request from long time loyal listener Tom Steiner. Merle Haggard and Big City, followed by Canadian Troubadour Stompin' Tom Connors and Zakuska Polka. Dave runs down some chart toppers on January 31st from the 1950's and plays Billy Bayou by Jim Reeves. Dave runs down the line-up of Saturday's Grand Ole Opry thanks to Fayfare's Opry Blog. Then another from Jim Ed Brown's album. This time with long time singing partner, Helen Cornelius. Next is a debut act for our show. The first time we have played music by The Old Crow Medicine Show. Ian Tyson is next followed by Six String Stu and Please Come to Boston. Eddie Cantor, “Ole Banjo Eyes” was born on this day in 1892. Dave plays an Eddie Cantor tune. Hello Walls by Faron Young is next followed by Jeanne Pruett who's birthday was January 30th and Satin Sheets. More satin sheets with Johnny Paycheck and Slide Off Of Your Satin Sheets. A few more from Jim Ed Brown's Album In Style Again. Dave then gives some statistics on inductees to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Dave then puts in his opinion that Dottie West should be the next inductee to the country hall of fame. Next is an unlikely duo, Bill Anderson and Willie Nelson sing The Lord Knows I'm Drinking. Some great country music round out the live broadcast for today. Special Note: Most of the E-Mail, chat room, and web sites mentioned no longer exist.
