The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. Chris Opiela shares a devotion on how men can grow in devoting themselves to Jesus, to love Him with their Heart, soul, mind, and strength. When we live devoted to Jesus, it changes how we think about and act in our time, work, family, goals, minds and more. To grow in love, we reflect on the depth of God's love for us. The more forgiven I feel, the greater love I act on. The more grace I've received, the greater devotion I give.
Going Deeper, ask yourself:
- Who is a person in your life that is an example of love and devotion to Jesus?
- What is something that you would need to change in your life to follow in that person’s footsteps?

Today's episode presents a short devotional from the beginning of Psalm 107. The short summary is, I asked...God answered. God desires us to bring all of our challenges to Him. And once He responds, we can bring gratitude back as a way to say thank you for His faithful, never-ending loyal love. We all face issues and solutions at the same time. Jon Mroos, Frontline's Lead Pastor, shares God's truths from the Bible on how to overcome the occasional, the habit, or even the addiction of viewing pornography. According to a Pure Desire Ministries study , 68% of church-going men view pornography regularly. Many times men seek to medicate the pain of rejection and failure in an environment where rejection is impossible. Pornography offers fake, pseudo-acceptance. When God's acceptance is experienced as greater than that pseudo-acceptance, men can start walking in victory over pornography. If you need a place to start reflecting on God's acceptance, use verses from the Bible like Romans 8:1 and 8:31-39 . Start here. Every day start here. When you’ve faced rejection, go to these verses. Write them out with a pen or pencil until you can say them. Pray these words out to God. Think on these words over and over. Let the acceptance of God through Jesus Christ transform the way you view yourself and the world so that when facing our challenges and tempted to numb the pain away with sexual arousal and pornographic control, you turn to the living God who loves you unconditionally through faith in Jesus. Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). Taking it a step further, He also called His disciples to have a heart ambition to serve, to be last, to be servant to all. One man who has embodied that heart to serve lately at Frontline is Will Syverson. Will serves several hours each month in the children's ministry along with helping as often as he can with other projects at the church. In December he also volunteered to help other organisations in the KMC. Will's example of following Jesus to help others can inspire all of us as we consider who we can invest time into.
