All travelers and people returning to Shanghai are required to do one PCR test per day for three days upon returning. Xinqiao Toll Gate attendants were busy checking everyone’s PCR test results today. Zhang Hong tells us more.

所有返沪人员抵沪后，都需实行三天三检。今天（10/11），新桥高速收费站查验所有来沪车辆的核酸码。记者张泓为您带来更多报道。

At the toll gate along the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Highway, drivers coming from outside Shanghai were asked to turn on their vehicle’s emergency lights so attendants would know their PCR tests need to be checked.

G60沪昆高速新桥收费站入城方向，所有来沪车辆都会被要求开启双闪灯，便于前方查验人员扫码查验核酸码。

Please scan the venue code. You need to do a PCR test over there since you haven’t done one in three days.

Two PCR test windows were set up at the toll gate. It takes about 20 minutes to get a test done during peak hours.

We are here to guide the drivers somewhere else, so that they don’t block traffic. And we’ll remind drivers to leave soon after they get a PCR test done.

Community workers were busy today to ensure residents returning from trips got a test done within 24 hours. Mr. Zhang, who lives in Changning District, just returned from Anhui Province. He got a phone call from the neighborhood committee this morning reminding him to do a PCR test.

今天（10/11），社区工作人员也忙于确认返沪居民24小时内做了核酸。张先生住在长宁区，刚从安徽省返沪。他今早（10/11）接到了居委会的电话，提醒他去做核酸。

Travelers or returnees to Shanghai will send their PCR test results to a community worker. We set up a record for each household.

外来返沪人员会加我们"块长"的微信，把他们的核酸检测报告记录以及结果发到"块长"手机上面，我们会做一户一档的档案。

About 3,000 residents live in the same community as Mr. Zhang. Many of them returned or came to Shanghai from other cities. The community was separated into five areas with five community workers each taking charge of one area.

和张先生住在同一个小区的大概有3000人，其中很多是从其他城市来沪返沪。小区分为五块，由块长分别负责。

2.XINTIANDI DESIGNS A FUN FESTIVAL FOR ALL

新天地设计节

The 2022 Xintiandi Design Festival offers something for explorers as 20 installations【装置】 are scattered around the commercial area. Zhang Yue was there and finds out what inspired some of the young designers and architects.

2022年新天地设计节为游客提供了精彩体验，20处装置分布在这一片商业区内。记者张悦在这里，探索到了一些年轻设计师和建筑师的灵感来源。

These two giant kaleidoscopes【万花筒】 have bought many residents back to their childhood. By moving the installation right and left, you will be able to see colored pieces of glass and transparent materials.

这两个巨大的万花筒让很多居民仿佛回到童年。通过左右移动装置，可以看到其中的彩色玻璃片和透明物体。

I was just passing by after getting off the subway. Art installations like this are attractive【有吸引力的】 to students like me since they are more fun than going to a museum or gallery.

刚在这路口看了半天，正好坐地铁路过。好像回到小时候，因为我们大学生嘛还是挺喜欢这种年轻化有互动感的艺术品的，去博物馆、艺术馆的话可能有点沉闷。

Visitors will also encounter "Cubic Scape", a group of shelters under plants for people to sit, lie down or even take a nap. "X Tree" is made of wood and straw. The designers said it’s a metaphor representing the strong vitality and potential of people.

游客还将看到“立方体景观”，这是一组由植物组成的庇护所，游客可以在这闲坐、躺下，甚至小睡片刻。“X树”由木材和稻草制成。设计师认为，这个隐喻代表了人们强大的生命力和潜力。

I have come to Xintiandi and taken pictures of installations regularly in the past few years. It’s even better at night with the light effects. Young architects have a good opportunity to present their work.

以前其实一直在新天地设计节看艺术装置的，尤其是晚上灯光效果也好。这边已经不光是可以吃喝玩乐了，不经意就有很多艺术品可以学一学，也是给一些年轻的不知名的设计师一些机会展现吧。

In "Shanghai Memory", designer Hong Dongtao, a Xintiandi resident for 12 years who is obsessed with shikumen stone-gate houses, has created a "time tunnel" using metal plates, bricks, old house number plates and old photographs. The installation reflects his passion and nostalgia toward bygone days. This is the 6th year Xintiandi partnered with Design Shanghai, one of Asia’s leading design events.

在“一方天地”这一作品中，建筑师洪东涛用金属板、砖块、旧房子号牌和老照片创造了一条时光隧道。洪东涛住在新天地12年，痴迷于石库门石门房屋，这一作品反映出他对过去的热爱和怀念。今年是新天地与亚洲领先的设计盛会之一“设计上海”合作的第六年。

This year, we want to raise attention of nature to people’s wellbeing【福祉】. So this year our theme is X Park, which means, we bring an architectural small park into a city life. We want to engage and educate the public of what is design. Design can bring something maybe not that functional to your lifestyle, but it can add some really inspirational element in your normal life.

今年，我们希望人们能够更加关注大自然带来的福祉。所以，今年我们的主题是X公园，我们希望将一个建筑小公园带入城市生活。我们希望公众能够参与并且了解到什么是设计。设计不一定是特别实用的东西，但可以为你的日常生活带来一些启发和鼓舞。

Tan said she strongly suggests people check out the festival’s leaflet and find all the installations while strolling around Xintiandi, since some of them may appear quite different during the day than at night. The festival is free to the public and ends this Sunday.

谭卓表示，她强烈建议大家在新天地漫步时查收节日传单，探索所有艺术品，因为其中一些在白天和晚上看会有不同的效果。新天地设计节对公众免费开放，并于本周日结束。

3.RUSSIA LAUNCHES MISSILE STRIKES ON UKRAINE

Ukraine said 19 people were killed and 105 wounded as a result of Russian strikes across the country a day earlier. Air raid sirens sounded repeatedly across the country today and explosions【爆炸】 occurred in several places. Lei Shuran has the story.

At least 16 explosions rocked the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine this morning, causing fires in several districts of the city. Kiev and Kharkiv were among the cities attacked yesterday. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a security meeting that long-range missiles struck Ukraine’s energy, military and communications facilities yesterday. He added the strikes were retaliation for what he called Ukraine’s "terrorist attack" on the Kerch Bridge, an attack for which Ukraine has not claimed responsibility. He promised a "harsh" response to any further such attacks. Repair work on the bridge had begun. Officials revealed that some freight will resume on October 16th and that the bridge will be fully repaired in one-and-a-half months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted yesterday that he had agreed to hold an urgent meeting with G7 countries over Russia’s missile attacks after a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The German Defense Ministry announced yesterday that it would send the first of four IRIS-T SLM air defense systems to Ukraine. The land-based air defense system targets aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, jet artillery, drones【无人机】, anti-radar missiles and bombs.
