Author and licensed therapist Shemiah Derrick, LCPC, CADC joins the show to discuss how we can improve communication by using specific steps when we’re talking and other steps when we’re listening.
Shemiah shares information about the Gottman Method and how a “gentle start-up” can help when we share feelings with our partner. She also discusses listening with curiosity, pausing a conversation that’s getting heated, and avoiding defensiveness.
