#106: As a social worker and person in recovery, Mary Long (she/her) knows that her past experiences are some of her biggest assets when it comes to helping other people. When Mary started her recovery journey she did not foresee her life being this impactful. Now her story has meshed together in beautiful and painful ways, solidifying her sense of purpose in the mental health community. Tune into the episode as we discuss the balance between self-care and self-motivation and more, including:

  • Taking intentional pauses from relationships to be able to show up with compassion.
  • How recovery programs share similarities to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in how we examine our thoughts as they relate to personal experiences.
  • Mary's experience recovering from hopelessness to then be faced with health challenges that feel very hopeless.
  • Remembering that the light is not as impactful if the dark is not recognized.
