In late October, we were dropped 5 miles into the snow-covered terrain on horseback, where daily storms and deep drifts tested our resolve. After steep hikes up mountain ridges, following black bear tracks and navigating 1000-foot cliffs, we finally spotted the elusive mountain goat on the 4th day. On the 5th day, we harvested a stunning, haired-out trophy. The adventure didn’t end there—our 19.2-hour trek out of the wilderness, through grizzly-infested forests, alongside fresh mountain lion tracks, and shadowed by a mysterious creature with glowing yellow eyes, was the final test of endurance.
